hi, this is probably really obvious but i cant seem to get this right!
How do you wash a foam pillow without all the insides getting all bunched up and lumpy? i try shaking after the wash etc but nothing seems to work, wondered if any one can shed any light on this!
    thanks in advance georgie

Take a needle and thread and sew through all the layers wth big stitches (i.e.4-6 inches) I usually do three or four lines down the length of the pillow - takes about 5 mins as it doesn't have to look pretty but saves quite a lot more trying to get the b****y thing to lie flat if you don't :)

Hi there! We have an older thread on this subject, so I'll add this thread to that one to keep ideas together.

  • ..after washing.

No tumble dryer & no washing line.

Don't want to ruin pillows by not drying properly but they really need washing :/ & can't afford to take to dry cleaners?

    Any ideas anybody?

& when washing do you just use normal washing powder?

    TIA x

    Hi

I've washed pillows before today, gone to put them on the line only to find its started raining. What I did was to peg them to my clothes maiden. I pegged them from the 2 corners in the direction of which a pillow lays if you know what I mean. They dried no problem. Not sure if this helps but I'm assuming with no dryer and line, you may have a maiden. Good luck.

Sorry, yes, I just added normal washing powder with a bit of oxi vanish in, oh and some conditioner so it freshens them up
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
  • I have a basic airer but I think I could make it work :)

If I have the airer leaning against a wall like I_I and the pillows going across and pegged?

I'm just talking to myself now...

    Thanks CurlyTop x

Yeah, that should work. My maiden sits at the top of a very narrow landing. Its a 4-part one (very old but reliable) and sometimes, I fold it back so that its flat against the wall, when I have nephews staying with me, incase they bang into it, going to the bathroom. The air still manages to circulate and its not so much against the wall as tilted. If you see what I mean.

  • Will try it on a day I'm here to keep an eye at least then if it doesn't seem to work I can try something else (hairdryer.. or waste petrol driving to Mum's) :/

    Thanks again CurlyTop X

I have removed the covers from the pillows tp wash them and put the wadding in the freezer to kill bugs. It seems to work!
