It's an honour to be part of this challenge with so many virtual[STRIKE]strangers[/STRIKE] friends
My washer has been fixed- for free - and so I am very hopeful that I can stick to budget this month and get to 74% paid off next payday. Being back at work will keep me out of trouble in the shops  and there's only a birthday meal to go to (presents already bought), no other events or expenses planned.
Have a great debt-busting September everyone :money:X
oooooh 74% will be incredible!!! Is there any fleabaying you can do to nudge it up by another 1% to get to 3/4 paid off???xxx

Well, pulses are my new best friend. Lots of dhansaks and veg curries and chickpea curry is my specialityFrom one bag of dried chickpeas and two tins of value chopped toms we get enough curry for two main meals and at least 4 lunches to take to work.
The kids are a bit more expensive as I get them good quality meat, fresh fruit, puddings, snacks etc which we could do without. I have just planned the weekly shop at about £60 so am hopeful that will be it except for the odd milk and bread top up.
And NO BOOZE!! :eek::eek::eek:
Also I have had a fair few MrS vouchers this month that really helps from various insurance and CC offers.

Well done May2013 on paying off your debt :j:j:beer:!
Congrats too to all those others who've been paying off parts of debts!
Thanks Jemma for your kind words in your epic post yesterday. I'm feeling really disheartened at the moment with debt payments (lack of) and the support from you and others really really helps. My course is Biomedical Science and although I really enjoy it, I really need to earn some money now so I'm glad there's just 1 year left
. Your holiday sounds lovely - I've been to Windermere and loved it!
Well this week DH was off and we had a few days out which is why I haven't had a chance to post much. When I added up what we'd spent it came to £300 . Although what we spent this week and during the other week when DH was off came to much less than a 'proper' holiday - £650 in total - it's still more than we had (we only had £150). But DH works hard and was reluctant not to do anything which is understandable. Not sure where this money's going to come from though.
Now trying to cut costs down even more to prevent us from going over our overdraft limit this month. May actually have to add to our debt, never mind paying it off.

Hi!
Not posted or a while, it's been all go lately!
Payday yesterday so all bills paid today, not paid quite so much this month as I have a few extra things to pay for ( dentist- boo!) and I would rather seat the money aside than be tempted to use my credit card!
Anyway, have redone my figures AGAIN, as I think I've confused myself somewhere. When I joined the thread my debt was £8121 and will use that figure going forwards, despite getting it down a bit and then adding a bit on again!
Got a bit extra last month from e bay which helped and a cheque from Welcome FInance for an overpayment helped me get some CHristmas Presents.
Hoping to have a car boot sale this month, and will hopefully get my student loan overpayment refunded £130 lump sum and then saving £67 a month which is an extra payment.
Going to focus all my energy on my Littlewoods account as the potential interest is highest on that and plus I've had it for years and I just want it gone!
Anyway, new total
1383/8121 = 17%
Total Debt: 1383/ £8121
Aiming to clear 50% by Xmas 2012 :j0 -

Fritterprincess, I often think that overdrafts are worse than credit cards cos you don’t get monthly statements to shock you, it’s just always there. They charge a % but it doesn’t bother us like it does on a C/C. Weird! I was so happy when I paid my overdraft off. I knew I had to do it before I paid off my C/C’s cos 1) my C/C’s were on 0% but my overdrafts charged and 2) I would only fritter away the money when I should have been paying it off my C/C’s. You’ll get there hun and we’ll be right there with you!
Thanks jemma! I appreciate your wise words and support. After a quiet couple of months on the debt busting front I am now getting strict with our spending. I've have done a fair bit of overtime recently but it has just disappeared on everyday living, kids birthdays, summer holiday expenses and the blasted mortgage arrangement fees. I have booked loads of extra shifts at work and every penny is being used to chip at my overdraft. For the first time in I don't know my overdraft is below 4k ( only by £150 do far!) but if I stick to my plan I will have paid off another £750 by the end of sept! Fingers crossed!!
When is your holiday at the lakes? My sister has a beautiful stone cottage over looking lake Windermere. We stayed there for a week at the beginning of the school holidays. We had a lovely time and what's more we didnt have to pay anything other than our own expenses! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time!
Well done to may2013- what an amazing achievement!

Thanks Jemma,
I've had a think overnight, and to save a bit of confusion, I will keep with the running total I had before, but will set myself the mini-target to clear my bigger overdraft by Christmas. It got too confusing trying to work out the maths
I'm wondering if you guys can tell me what you would do here: last month, very suddenly, Dad was made redundant. Luckily he's a clever cloggs, and got snapped up almost immediately by another company (with a good £15k pay rise to boot!). With the good news, he told me to write off the last £200 of the money he loaned me for my car.
The confusing bit:
My parents keep their finances separate, and Mum has been unemployed for a few years now, with a lot of debt to pay off. We have an arrangement that I pay back my car loan by £100 a month to Mum instead of Dad, so that Dad doesn't need to give her so much (she does have a pension too!)
Dilemma:
Last two payments are December - January. Mum could really do with the money to help with Christmas costs and neither would notice if I did paid the money into her account. Do I write off the last 2 payments (£200 isn't exactly small change!) or make them anyway (as she could really use the money)?0
