  • The 18 mile walk sounds a bit scary Jemma ;).

My plans for today are to remember to go to the dentist - I forgot to go yesterday and was panicking that they would charge me but they said as I'd never missed an appointment before they'd let me off - phew! Going out tonight with my 2 lovely friends who know I'm skint so we always go somewhere cheap and I never spend very much but have a great night out anyway so all good :).

hi everyone. im on summer holidays from school and not doing a lot. i dont want to wish the time away because its wonderful not to be at work but i want pay day here so i can pay another chunk. i have to wait until the 19th.

apart from food shopping i havent spent a penny. dh has dished out endless money to dd so thats all good. however i have dd dh and ds birthdays next month plus dgd so an expensive time coming up.

last night i ordered both dh and dd birthday present £154 gone. ds is having cash as he is off on holiday with his mates. dh will pay for dgd present. so i think we are ok with all that.

still on track for debt free by xmas so all good.

ive applied for another part time job so fingers crossed i hear something this week. not only will it give me another income it will also give me a reduction on my food shopping bill so a double winner.

no plans for the next few days but we are off to spain in a couple of weeks so just chilling out until then.

have a great day everyone x

My goal is to pay off these debts and then avoid spending on things I don't need and can't afford and getting myself in debt because of it. Hopefully the training I'm receiving during this year and next will help me achieve this ;).

Just want to ditto what Mrs A-T-S is doing.I constantly refer to the old adage "Use it up and wear it out, make it do or do without", once something is used up or worn out if it can't be mended then I'll have to do without. I have far too much stuff in my house, so I figure I'll have quite a few years yet before I have to do without anything :rotfl:

    Thanks Jemma.

Good luck with the walk. As a child I used to walk 6 miles just to go play with my cousins, and then walk home again , if you break your 18 miles down into 6 mile goals it will be a stroll in the park ;)

    Hi affordmylife,

Well done for not spending any money, usually when there's a change to the routine a person if more likely to spend, so it's great news that you're staying strong.

Good to hear that you're on track for being debt free by Christmas :T

Good luck with the job application.

    Hello all!

Last night I went out with a friend to the local carvery. Cheap night out - £3.99 for carvery (forgot to take my £3.50 voucher, d'oh!) and three blackcurrant and water at 95p each (95p for cordial and water!).

Just done a quick top up shop at Mr T's, think I've spent my weekly budget now :)

Superheavy - glad you've got your money through, it's a fab feeling only having one debt left, isn't it?

    Hi all,

Just trying to catch up with this thread & I have loads of pages to get through.

Jemma, sorry to hear that you are having a tough time at the moment. It was so brave of you to go in and tell your boss how you are feeling - I'd have chickened out and thrown a sickie. Try and do more things that make you happy like the running & take the rest slowly. Hugs to you x

Keeping the house running while the kids are at home is about as much as I can manage along with keeping up the debt busting. So I won't be making a list - sorry :o

Nct mum - well done on your PPI claim - that must be a great feeling to pay a chunk of debt off :D

May2013 - wow thats some task you've set yourself for this month! I hope it works out for you - you're a braver person than me:o Let us know how you get on !

Canucksfan & SeriousDFW - hope you both have fab holidays

Congratulations superheavy on finally getting your sharesave money - not far to go now :T

I finally received notice of my payrise and bonus. Payrise was inflationary, as expected but bonus was 40% down on expected! Apparently I did well relative to others in the firm but it isn't supposed to be measured that way...nonetheless, shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth! ;)

It means I have no contingency in my plans to get debt free by Christmas and with OH still not having made up the £300 that he didn't pay across to the joint account this month, and the car in for as-yet-unknown-damage repairs, we may struggle.

I've been contemplating a second job, at least until Christmas. Probably bar work as I'm good at it (used to be a manager) and enjoy it but the downsides are:
    * long/late shifts: i suffer from exhaustion at the best of times
    * pay: I'm a higher rate tax payer so with NI will only take about £3-£3.50 per hour. It's better than nothing but I'm not sure the sacrifice to my health is worth it! :(

My other alternative is to try and push my baking a bit. I hope to make it a full time business one day anyway so no reason why I can't start small now. Fear....?

If I can get just a few orders in then it would really help. Just not sure what to do! I'd have to apply to the council for registration and go self-employed, but that's not so bad and only takes about 6 weeks, if all goes to plan. Maybe I could try and tap into the Christmas market....

Okay, a lot of thinking out loud, so to speak, so sorry about that. Just really don't want to fall short by £1,000 or so come Christmas! :o
