My other alternative is to try and push my baking a bit. I hope to make it a full time business one day anyway so no reason why I can't start small now. Fear....?

If I can get just a few orders in then it would really help. Just not sure what to do! I'd have to apply to the council for registration and go self-employed, but that's not so bad and only takes about 6 weeks, if all goes to plan. Maybe I could try and tap into the Christmas market....

This would be the best idea in my opinion, if you got sorted with the Council by mid September then you could flog your Christmas cakes doing a traditional fruit and a sponge for those of us that don't like fruit cake but do like a Christmas cake - if that makes sense! ;)

Thanks, that's what I was thinking.

There's a guy at work who's family are butchers and he's allowed to send an email to the office in the Autumn getting orders for Christmas hams. I don't see why I wouldn't be allowed to do the same for cakes. :)

That gives me a bit of time to perfect my fruit cake recipe, work out prices, and take some photos, too. ;)

Just got back from my obligatory walk this evening in preparation for my 18miler in 3.5 weeks! It was gorgeous by the lake with rowers and sailing boats out, I didn't want to come back as it was so lovely... tomorrow I'm going to go for some interval sprints at the local track and see if I can get round it in under 2mins (400m track). I was really close a few weeks ago... It's only 4.5weeks until my 10k race so need to pick things up a notch. Work are now talking about going biking which sounds cool although a big issue for me is that I don't have one! They also want to do things like the coast to coast cycling or the manchester to blackpool cycle but it's just too far for me distance-wise in my head let alone a complete novice on a bike. I used to cycle everywhere when I was a teenager but that was about 16yrs ago!!! I think I'll have to seriously think about this as I don't want it to just be another piece of kit that is shoved in the garage once the novelty has worn off...

Just settling down now to update the totals on page 1 and find out how much we've paid off in July too!!!

i know that everyone is probably sick to death of hearing about my sharesave, but it finally came in today, and i was able to pay off my hsbc loan. Thus leaving me with a credit card which is on 0% left to pay off. There was a good 10 minutes after i paid off the loan where i was smiling. And i never smile at work.
