Ok - well I decided not to get rid of dd's short sleeved stuff just yet. I did tackle the bedding and have reduced us to 3-4 changes of bedding and have some no longer wanted blankets to go to charity/recycling. Our bedroom is now 65% done, was going to make it 70% but then I looked under the bed.

I *might* use flylady next week, to send me to the rooms so I can complete this de-cluttering.
  • I'm back after a couple of weeks of being lazy

I've listed a lot of stuff on Freecycle this morning, and hopefully will get most of it picked up this afternoon. I've also got to list a buggy on Ebay this afternoon too.

After lunch I'm taking the baby to his gran's so I can de-clutter the spare room. I've been dying to do it for ages, but really haven't had the time.

My apologies for not posting in an age, but I promise i have read every post! Ive been every so slightly snowed under with things to do but will be back decluttering as of today.

    IN: Nothing

    OUT: Ex Boyf
1 car full of Ex Boyf's Stuff
Rest of Ex' stuff in the loft (out of sight :) )
    3 Bags of general rubbish

OUT (this evening): 1 Empty bottle of wine

Seem to be making headway at least..... Got an interview for a promotion on Friday which is almost guaranteed to be mine (along with a 30% pay increase, woohoo!) so I will need to not declutter too much next week with preparation and all, but I want my flat looking amazing by the end of the month.

Well done on everyones achievments so far, I think ill be getting involved with some of that ebay selling palaver soon as I have useless (to me) stuff knocking around. Here's hoping I can make a couple of hundred quid to pay off the sofa - that would be a rather nice achievement!

i'm setting myself a target of emptying the bags that all the stuff in the living room has been shoved into. It's getting me down and i need to do something
    I'll keep you posted
  • I'm going to join in too, if nobody minds. I was reading through this thread last night and it's spurred me on. I have so much junk, I even keep old carrier bags if they have pretty designs on them :o So my aim is to find three things a day to get rid of/give to charity/sell. And I'm going to be rutheless this time!

Annie, hope you don't mind my answering, I'm just getting to the end of an 18 month declutter. I lurk a bit on this thread to stay inspired! Love the 'in: xxx, out: yyy' post style!)

I definitely recommend sorting from the start.
You could use flylady's simple categories:
    1. Put away
    2. Throw away
    3. Give away

    However I used:
    1. papers to be kept, important (eg stuff from bank)
    2. papers to be kept, interesting (eg recipes) (I recycled a lot of newspaper-clipped recipes though! If I had never cooked it, it went!)
    3. recycling
    4. rubbish
    5. charity shop
Stuff to put away, got put away as soon as it was discovered!

Labelled containers are better than sorting stuff into piles. (I use plastic bags and a permanent marker.) I didn't Freecycle much, just things I thought the local charity shop wouldn't take. Freecycle is great, but can take longer than just bagging stuff up and dropping it off. Also, don't wait til the end of your declutter to go to a charity shop (if possible), the more often you can go, the better.

When a bag of stuff was supposed to leave the house (freecycle/for charity shop), I put it in the hall, rather than leaving it in the corner of a room, to remind myself it was on it's way out. Bags of recycling and rubbish were taken out of the house just before tea breaks!

just wanted to say a big thank you:beer:
I went back several times to read this when I got stuck where to place something or lack of motivation.

I have now done the whole place:j :j :j ....except the loft :o might keep those 8 boxes as time capsules:rotfl:

As I started with our bedroom, DH has decorated it and it looks all clean and fresh now I feel so much better for doing it, my home has more space and others have benefited from my no longer needed stuff (someone even took the old CRT monitor)

a big thanks to everyone here

PS next weekend off to help DS1 in his place to declutter and he hasn't been there a year yet:rolleyes:
  • Also out another 2 bin bags of rubbish :j
