Question for those who use freecycle... has your group asked you to provide information such as your postcode and area???
We're supposed to quote this in the header, i.e. town/village/area and then the first part of the postcode (my freecycle covers a large area) - it just helps cut down on people asking for an item, and then deciding that 30 miles is a bit too far to travel...:rotfl: .
We don't have to put our full postcode in, it just gives a general idea of where you are.

I simply put (St L) next to the title for St Leonards on Sea.
Never been asked for full postcode - completely agree, I wouldn't do that at all. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I wouldn't do it either - we have to quote the first part of ours (L15, L36, L1 etc) and ALL posts are moderated. Not had any problems.Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

.. normally we put..
OFFER/WANTED/TAKEN: *item* (general area.. estate, village, locality etc)
But the moderators are saying it is them who want the postcodes and locations to store on their private computers..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Just a thought.

When I was membership secretary for the local branch of CAMRA I wasn't allowed to have any member details on my computer, as I gather it would have violated the Data Protection Act.

Was about to say almost the exact same thing......Information Commissioner's website might have the answer: http://www.ico.gov.uk/0 -

Question for those who use freecycle... has your group asked you to provide information such as your postcode and area???
I'm a moderator of a Freecycle group - we just ask for general location. Being close to London half our group puts the first part of their postcode, whilst the other half uses village or town name.
I can also see that putting an area within a town might be useful, but full postcodes are a no-no as far as I'm concerned - akin to giving your address or telephone number in a post. A bit of a security issue.
MoamAlthough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.
