A couple of bags of garden rubbish and old fencing went to the dump yesterday.
The Freecycler came for the bags of coat hangers so that's good but the Age Concern people didn't bother taking the bag of clothes from our front garden. It is visible from the road, as they asked, but they took some that were left on the pavement further up the road and left mine and two of my neighbours' bags! Maybe it's because there's a small green between us and the road and they couldn't be bothered walking too far. They did say they needed textiles urgently, obviously not THAT urgently! If they don't collect by midday I'll take the bag to our local charity shop. I didn't do all that clothes sorting for nothing!! :mad:I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!
I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!0 -
LOL RMC. it was a very old cupboard which had been in the shed for 2 years.
Took 2 bags of DH clothes to charity shop this morning, in fact,DH offered to drive and drop them off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! major shock. Anyway , we got there and a woman came striding forward as I was opening the door, saying "Dont bring in any bags, we dont want any more stuff". I couldnt believe it! Turns out they are inundated daily and cant cope. When I explained I'd travelled 8 miles in the landrover she said shes have them . I hope she looks inside, theres some nice things, and doesnt just hand them over to the rag man. almost wish i'd brought them back home now."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -

I have also experienced charity shops turning down clothes too. A newly opened shop, a small one turned down clothes the other week from us. We thought they would be more desperate for donations but apparently not.
I ended up posting it on freecycle and someone collected them - I could have got rid of these 20 times over! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

ours is the local Air Ambulance. Last week on the telly they said they needed £xxxxxxx more than last year because the fuel price has risen so much.
I realy think the lady in the shop should have a massive one-off sale. everything for 10p clear the place out. would do a lot of goodwill. stopping people giving isnt the way forward at all."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
Interesting.... we have 2 shops in the vicinity for the same organisation. One of them turns their nose up at stuff, the other accepts it gratefully.
Guess where my turfed-out stuff goes.....

First day of the summer holidays here and I have a black bag of rubbish already. The aim is to sort out every room so that by the time I go back to work at the beginning of september the house is de-cluttered. I'll report back every now and again to keep myself motivated.MFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

Well I just checked out the baskets thread on MSN - and have decided to make all my rellies a basket of goodies for Xmas (yes I know it is July but cant be starting soon enough) so now I wonder why I chucked all those tubes/bottles/lotions etc
However, I am going to try and do the baskets as cheap as poss - e.g. I got some freebies from beauty counter direct (found link on this site), reduced stuff on benefit (again via this site) and have points from Boots, quidco and pigsback. so ladies, when flinging - think Christmas!
