It can be a right pain... Especially when you have to explain how annoying the dogs can be if people treat them like babies rather than dogs! Mine will take advantage of anyone if they think they can get away with it!!

I do this as well. I have a freezer full of meat because of it.

I am a first time buyer and in the early stages of the house buying process. I have had my offer accepted so I'm just waiting on everything else going through now.

I always planned to overpay every month. My starting balance will be £71,250 and will be paid back over a 25 year term. I don't know how quickly I'll be able to pay this back but your thread has given me a lot more motivation.

Anything I have left at the end of the month will be going towards overpaying. I want to save as much as possible on interest over the years. I must start selling anything I don't want before I move and that can go into the pot too.

Maybe I'll start my own diary after completion. In the mean time I'll keep getting inspiration from you and other MFW's.

Make sure you have a nice savings fund of 3-6 months expenses before you start overpaying ;)

    I must say I don't have a savings fund at all :o
I think the savings rate is pretty rubbish at the mo and since one of us is in a reliable ish job hopefully we'll blag it til next year. Savings will then commence!

I am glad I am not the only one without much savings. I can always get my overpayments back if needed and no saving plan is going to pay the daily interest I currently pay to the mortgage. Your figures are very impressive, quite jealous how much you are hitting it. well done
    mortgage 1 33,000. paid nov 2012 :D. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k
  • See i can see the pros and cons of having emergency money - as it scares the pants off me not having anything as a back up . how do you feel about it?
