It is my second post today but you'll soon see why I had to share my news!!
My OH has actually paid off his blinking credit card!! To put this in perspective, he has had CC debt since I have known him (nearly 14 yrs) and has NEVER been interested in paying it off. It took months and months for him to commit to being a MFW and he has now taken that one step further with his CC. You could knock me over with a feather I am that shocked :eek:Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

Hi LauraJo, on the menu topic - if you can batch cook and freeze your HM goodies you will reduce your food bill in a big way. Make stock from chickens to use in risottos, make fish pies, buy a gammon and cook, cool then slice the ham - much cheaper than buying ham in packs and much tastier. If I ever see a bargainous gammon,I grab it and cook it in dry ginger - beautiful.
I get a real buzz out of menu planning so ping me a message if you want any help.
Best wishes Tilly

Omg I can't even make beans on toast! (Not kidding!)
My biggest issue is we try and cook big meals and save some but we always end up eating it all (just like we have just done wiv a 2 day serving of carbonara! I think maybe this is a challenge that I need to pass onto DH since he now needs a new challenge!Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

I agree with Tilly, meal planning is the one thing that really cut our budget. I used to spend a fortune shopping. Have you a slow cooker? I bought a huge bit of silverside for a tenner at the weekend and a bag of veg, cut the joint in half and put it in slowcooker on top of veg and little bit of stock for the day. Then sliced half for roast dinner first day and cut up rest for stew. Had pasta on 3rd day, then repeated the beef thing on day 4 and 5. It tasted so nice nobody complaining about eating it again. £10 for meat, another quid for veg, made dumplings one day and yorkshire puds another not even £15 for 12 serving between 3 adults and a couple extra to go in freezer.
Gonna do the same with a gammon joint tonight, keep the stock for pea and soup mmm I love me grub!. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

I like the allreceipes website, full of lovely ideas and most have reviews so you can tell how easy or tasty a dish is.
