Just in case any of you are Sky or Virgin/NTL/Telewest subscribers... I posted this on another thread earlier, wouldn't want my DMP Mutual Supporter Club friends to miss out on a possible money saving mission!!

"I used to work for Sky and NTL/Virgin/Telewest. The person you speak to in customer relations/retentions (who deal with potential disconnections) are paid on a commission type basis, i.e. they get paid for each customer they "save". However, they get a bigger pat on the back if they save you cheaply, i.e. without offering you lots of discount.

What you need to do is... Say you think that the cost of the service is too high for the quality of service (make it sound like a complaint, keep the "financial difficulty" card up your sleeve, as they are more likely to want to save a customer who they think will have plenty of pennies to pay them for they services into the distant future, rather than someone who sounds like they will default on their bills if the going gets tough). If they suggest reducing your package (some will, every agent takes a different line to begin with in my experience), DON'T BACK DOWN!!! This is their way of "saving" you with no cost to the company (well extra cost anyway, of course they'll lose the revenue from the bits of package). Simply say that there would be no point in having Sky/Virgin at all if you were forced to do that as those are the services you use/watch most often, and you would be better off disconnecting all together and watching freeview. This will get the big guns out. DO NOT GIVE IN EASILY!!! What's the worse that can happen? You end up saying you'll cancel? If that happens, just call in the next day and say you've thought about it and want to cancel your disconnection.

Before you know it, you'll have a juicy discount applied to your account. Try to barter them further, e.g. if they say three months at half price, ask for six. You may get it, you may not.

Remember, you owe them nothing, they deal with these calls everyday. If you're lucky you'll get an agent how is lazy and will apply a great discount straight away just to get you off the phone (also because they don't want you hogging the line for ages as it affects their calls stats - another tactic). If you're unlucky, you'll get an experienced agent who will try to undercut you all the way. If it's not happening, say you'll think about it and call back through to someone the next day.

    Good luck!! "

    Lonely ,

Are you okay? I realised after rereading my post that maybe you're a bit emotional just now and are easily upset? My Mum went through a similar thing, so I'm sorry if that's the case.

Please understand that my post isn't trying to get at you, I just wanted to let you know who ridiculas(sp?) I thought the idea of cliques etc are, and that I and I doubt no one on here would want you to feel left out.

We might not all be around when you need us, as I said, this isn't our fulltime occupation, but we are thinking of you as much as our own situation will allow.

    Big hugs,

Well, seen as I've managed to roll out a huge conversation stopper, I might as well hot foot it to the PO with my Ebay parcels.

    Have a good day :rolleyes2

Smilealot!! What you on today??!!:D 7 posts in a row!! I jut advanced and scroll down the messages to remind me what to say!

been to the PO now, back with a cuppa! My son is off doing who knows what in the kitchen but I am beyond it now! DD is haleping cutting and sticking at the table as well so all is quiet - for the time being!! Right, need to change over more washing (this weather is fantastic - 2 loads hung and dried, another one nearly dry and the third just hung). Marvellous! Need to wrap up some more parcels and got to post office again...

oooh...if you've seen my thread on the board, you'll know I feel a little down but went to body care and spent £4 on really pampering things from their bargain bin. So tonight I'm going to go to town with a big bubble bath and full on pampering. Hopefully OH will be around in case the kids wake up and I can just relax! Do nails, etc. That might help...

    be back later!

Newlywed - Well done on selling the bureau :T How are you getting a current account with? Having you tried calling to chase them up? Remember to transfer your salary asap - they might be able to give you the account number and sort code over the phone? Can I ask - what is fixture ferret?!??! Sorry for being unknowledgeable!!

Crumbs - marathon posts there smilealot!!

The current account is with A&L - seemed easiest as there is one near work I can get to in my lunch hour. I will give them a few more days and then chase them up.

http://www.fixtureferrets.co.uk. If you pay a small yearly amount then you can search for all the offers (BOGOF etc) on some of the supermarkets - sainsbury, tesco, asda. It lets you know when the offer ends too. Without joining you can see the smaller saving offers, but I signed up some time ago and use it to buy chicken breasts, prawns, dishwasher tablets etc on offer.

I work near a large Co-op, large Sainsburys and small Tesco so use it to decide if it's worth me going to Sainsburys (hate that shop - it makes me stressed).

Ha ha ha - think my bout of hibernation has made me go into overdrive today!!

Glad to hear the kiddiewinks are well occupied Sea (you sound like such a fun Mum, craft things etc, lucky kiddies!). Enjoy the pampering tonight, you really deserve it (off to find your other post now, sorry didn't see it before) x

newlywed - thanks for that. Think I check the site out today - never heard of it before so thought it sounded a bit odd a first (had pictures of me eating ferrets etc!). I know what you mean about Sainburys, I was there yesterday. Although I did do some money saving... I really fancied a pizza with chorizo sausage (haven't managed this whole meal planning thing yet!), but they were really expensive - £3.99 or something!! So I bought a cheap margarita one and spent 35p on chorizo at the deli counter - saved loads :T Hope you get your bank stuff through soon.

    Hi YM :hello:

I loved Mr Chips (and maybe Roy Walker too!!!).

That's great that you managed to get a Visa Debit card, think my credit score was to low for that. Be careful with the charges though.

I hope everyone is okay with each other too, we just need to remember that we can't rely on each other too much as it's not a professional service and we all have ups and downs.

    Hope you're having a good day :rolleyes2

Oh no - I've just checked my Ebay listing and one of my items is selling for more than I paid for it, and there is still 4 days to run on the auction. I know it's great for Mr Piggybank, but I feel really guilty. And what if the winner is disappointed?

    Hi everyone.

Just a quick post before I head off for my evening shift at work.

Had a default letter (one each for me and dh) through the post. Its because we have now missed a payment on the first direct loan. CCCS told us to cancel the DD. Is this okay? I am really scared as we have never defaulted on a loan payment before. I am normally as religious about these as the mortgage. Its scarey stuff.

Kids off now so its been busy today!!!

I hope everyone has had a good day. Sorry if I dont answer posts individually. There just isnt enough hours in the day for me at moment. You are all in my thoughts though and if it was the real world I would bring you all over for coffee (and you could entertain my sprogs!!!!!!:D )

    Take care everyone
