As to your 'bar', it is fairly clear that he used it before any bar was put on.
Especially as you have told us that he then used a local PAYG SIM.
I imagine they offered to reduce the bill, but as it was still enormous, he still couldn't or wouldn't pay.
Not sure why you suggest that Vodafone ignored you.
Yes ridiculous charges but tell me would u expect to ever have a phone bill of thousands???
I actually spoke to Vodaphone when his phone was BARRED and they had told me his phone bill was £200 (before you ask how I contacted them .... I was put on his account when was away)
No offer to reduce and with all our efforts of getting this resolved Vodafone we not interested! And Yes we were ignored.
You sound like their Customer service team!!0 -

If he owes the money, then there isn't a requirement for Vodafone to reduce the amount. Any possible reduction would be done on a goodwill basis.
As was mentioned before in the thread, when you spoke to Vodafone the outstanding amount may well have been £200 (or £451 which you said earlier), however data charges from abroad are not instantaneously added to the account. Any charges that were accrued before the bar was placed will have to be paid, even though they may not have been visible to Vodafone when you contacted them.
It's a shame your brother had to declare himself bankrupt. It's a long process back from here for him.0 -
£451 was the amount not £200 (was rushing to reply)... Yes it is ashame but no other option for him.
Thousands of pounds on a phone bill is crazy but data roaming was never explained to him but not much that canbe done now0 -
When you spoke to the advisor the systen would log he accessed your brothers account regardless of whether he left notes or not. Make a request in writing take it up formally and if no go, take it up with the ombudsman.0

Unless the account holder has taken every step necessary to resolve the issue directly with Vodafone and received a deadlock letter, the Ombudsman would be unable to intervene. If the Ombudsman result is in favour of Vodafone, it would be final.
Its up to the account holder to take self responsibility and be aware of the charges.0 -

I contacted them on my brothers behalf and my parents and I choice to keep the br on his account so too stop any more crazy bills.https://www.vodafone.co.uk/about-this-site/terms-and-conditions/pay-monthly-terms-and-conditions/index.htm
8. Call limit, deposit and part payments
a) We may set a monthly call limit on your account. This may be increased or removed subject to a credit check. You may be able to go over your call limit, but if this happens, you must pay all charges.

My brother starts using an Australian pay and go sim card and stops using Vodafone.
We receive marchs Bill today for 1 month of £11,750 ....... I contact them and ask them one how the hell this could be and two why the bar was taken off.
they tell me they took the bar off after I asked them not too
so it looks like Vodafone was in fact talking about their credit limit.
Their credit limit is there solely to protect them from fraud and not to protect the customer from unintentional spend. All the Networks are concerned with is that the account belongs to a genuine 'billable' customer.0
