Laid up means bedridden with an illness or injury, it makes sense that way! Never heard of it used to refer to just having a cold and being up and about as normal.

Yes, that's how I always saw it but it's now just used when anyone has a cold around here.

Besides which 'laid up' doesn't make sense anyway. 'Laid down' perhaps would. But then people would just think you were having a nap.

I can't bear "corporate speak" either!! Do they realise how daft it sounds? Another is "I feel your pain", and the daddy of them all for me is "so", e.g "You are soooo not going there" "you are soooo going to regret that" etc

Even worse than 'bless you' is LOL.

I hate hate hate hate it. Especially when it is written in lower case.

"I just ate some cake lol"

Why? Why is that laugh out loud funny?

I've only recently found out that lol doesn't mean - Lots of Love:o

That could explain a few misunderstandings I've had recently:)
