Android spam
Over the last month or so I seem to get 2 or 3 spam links being sent to my Android ( I am on the Vodafone network) every day.
These appear as notifications in my notification bar and are from dating sites, battery life improvers, spurious apps, games - you name it. To remove the notification, I have to click on it and when it tries to access the internet, go back to the main screen.
I never used to get anywhere near this amount of spam and wonder if this is linked to Google's recent "customer enhancements".
Anyone else noticed an increase in this traffic and, more importantly, any solutions for stopping it?
May I add that I don't tend to use my android for much internet access, except the odd Google search for information or facts. I never go to trader sites and have only bought 1 paid app in my life.
Any help appreciated.

Same here, in fact I never give my gmail address out, the only thing I have noticed is that the accu weather often has a pop up ad there now, where it never used to.0 -
I think this has nothing to do with google. Neither it does with a e-mail address as I am getting a dozen of spam e-mails to my gmail box every day.
What kind of 'notifications' is it? They are different for texts, e-mails etc. If it is texts, can you not just block the numbers?0 -
i dont thi k the OP means emails
I think they mean spam ontifications from an installed app0 -
I got some of these too - some free apps have these - i.e. allcallrecorder sent me some of these from xapush.com

Thanks for that. I figured it was some app but the spam messages seemed to be so varied that I could not tie it into any one particular app.
grumbler - yes, they are neither emails nor texts and it is , I believe, what the others suggested - one or more rogue apps.0 -
It sounds to me like you have downloaded an app that uses airpush adverts.
If you download air push detector in the market it will tell you which apps are causing the ads in your notification bar.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

Following MoneySavingUser's links, I did just that. Unfortunately, the "Preventer" rather than "Detector" apps only seem to work on rooted handsets, so I installed Addons detector and that did, indeed, highlight an app "My settings" that was identified as having air push installed.
I am surprised at that, as I have it on my other Android and have used it for 9 months without bother. Perhaps a recent upgrade may have installed the add on. But I have removed it to see if it was the culprit.
As an aside, the author of airpush detector actually recommends addons detector as being better. Honest of him.0
