    Got my Yorkshire Bank Readycash account opened yesterday. They only wanted to see my passport, and didn't do a credit check. I explained why I wanted the basic account (ie financial difficulties in the past, so was sure they would turn down application for a cheque book type account once they did a credit check), and that I didn't want any more footprints on my credit file. He was a really great, helpful adviser - gave me some pointers on other things I could do to improve my score, etc - and said he felt that, in another 6 or so months I'd be offered an upgraded account, if I conducted this one well.
    It was so nice to be treated with some respect, after the awful attitude of Natwest's Lending Centre staff. I was often tempted to ask them which Charm School they went to ;)

    From memory ...I'd have to agree with you here! I remember speaking to some downright rude condescending staff from Natwest ...
