You should of taken it back to the shop, I cant stand people who buy stuff from chairty shops just to sell on ebay, its shocking.

The op actually stated that she bought the item originally for her sister.

Personally, I can't see any reason to object to reselling charity shop items. The charity shop sets the prices that it thinks the item will sell for. So long as they receive that money, then I can't see that they are missing out at all.

I've bought books from charity shops, read them and then sold them on Amazon for more than I paid for them. I can't see why that is so objectionable.

Can I ask why you think its shocking?
Once you buy an item, regardless of where you bought it, surely it is up to you what you do with it? The charity shop chooses the price they sell an item at, and are happy that they have made a sale, so who is losing out?

It's not like she has hunted around the charity sho to make a profit on eBay with items. She purchased it for her sister! And anyway, what is the problem? She paid the price the charity shop thought it was worth.

I bought a lovely little jacket for my nephew from Bloomingdales in NY, it was a Tommy Hilfiger one and cost me about 5 quid. He wore it a few times but outgrew it so we put it on Ebay and sold it for 32 quid !!!!!

I saw a guy selling an old 80s board game for 4.99 so I offered him a tempting 15 plus 5 postage! He agreed and last night I sold it for 65 plus 8 quid postage :P

It seems you get better deals from newbie sellers... people with low rating, as its fair to assume they are less likely to know you can search completed auctions and find out what something is worth.

More experienced sellers tell me to bog off with my cheeky offers!

That is just silly and rather unfair. There are worse crimes than buying stuff from a charity shop and reselling it.

As others have already said, Bella bought it for her sister, not to make a profit. Anyway, so what if she made a profit? The charity shop didn’t lose out. They made £3.50 regardless of whether it was bought to be worn or to be sold.

The new owner may well wear it a few times and then donate it to another charity shop and the cycle of charity shop to ebay will continue.

That cardie may earn £50 for charity before it falls apart. :D
  • The charity shops are given the items anyway and most of the clothing items I see are vastly overpriced. They're much cheaper in Primark!

How about the people on Antiques Roadshow who have paid a pittance at a car boot sale and then find out it's worth thousands? Should they search out the original seller and give them a good cut?

That's a very good point Avoriaz, I've often wondered how many miles and how much income the charity shop items have generated.
