Yup. Assuming you're the registered keeper, 14 days from the date of alleged offence, plus a couple for postage. :(

There is no "couple for postage".

It must be posted in time to reach the RK within 14 days.

1st class post is deemed to take 2 days so the latest the NIP could be posted is the 12th day.

  • I used to have a laser speed gun detector and the one time it was actually useful(apart from letting me know when I was going past some automatic doors on a shop) was when it picked up a copper from about 1/4 mile away.Didn't really help me as I was doing 20 mph in traffic but at least it showed it worked.

Yes, but if there's an unexpected delay in the postal system, that is deemed to not be the fault of the camera partnership.

If there's an expected delay (e.g. the last postal strike) then it's different.

Yep but that doesn't alter the fact that they have to post on the 12th day at the latest... if it gets held up then you have a fight on your hands ;)
Posting on the 13th day then blaming a postal strike, Tsunami, Zombie invasion won't work.

    Always keep the envelope!!!!!

I used to have a laser speed gun detector

If you had been speeding, then by the time your detector warned you you would already have been caught. The speed will be measured in less time than you (or anyone) can react and start braking.

Can you post a link to the legislation covering that?

It's case law. Though in trying to find it, it looks like there has since been another case (Gidden vs Chief Constable of Humberside) which means what I posted is outdated and wrong.

According to that case "If the motorist can show that the notice arrived after the 14 day period then the police are out of time and cannot prosecute the driver for speeding."

However, this is going to be very difficult to prove. Saying "always keep the envelope" is fine, but it's been a long time since I've seen a franked envelope that actually has a post mark on it.

Heaven forbid someone actually admits to their mistakes on here. ;)

The signal spreads, so I was picking it up from 1/4 mile away whilst in traffic, all the way up to where he was hiding behind a bush.So unless the nice man was pointing his gun directly at me as I came around the bend and then tracking my car out and inoring all the others, then if I was speeding I would have had chance to slow down.
A friend even had one that claimed it could jam the radar signal but that sounded like perverting the course of justice to me so I just stuck with what I had.
