How far into the distance can they see?
I was on a NSL road and I was still above when I entered the 30 zone. Then I saw the rear on the camera van in the distance parked on the opposite side of the road. There were a couple of cars in front of me too. I was down to 30 well before I passed the van but I'm not sure if they could actually see where the 30 zone starts from where they were or not.

If you can see them, they can see you unfortunately, the letterbox will reveal your fate within the next 14 days, after that, time for a celebration.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The 30 zone starts at point A and the camera van was at point B.

They could pick you up on that straight road, as the above poster suggests, you can only wait for some mail if it is due to arrive.0 -
As far as I remember, they have to give a minimum grace distance from the start of the speed limit..... I have a feeling it's 300ft or 90 metres.
Which means they can't tag you until point C

So about 350 - 400m between you. He will have seen you no problem over that distance, but the other cars may have blocked you if you're lucky0

Car in front was turning off the road around about point C so I had to slow right down anyway. I was still doing 40 past the 30 sign I think though. This road has only just become a camera van spot as it is not listed on there partnership website yet and I had only noticed the speed camera sign for the first time on that road too.0

As for range, with laser they can target a 3ft wide object at 1000ft.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

They don't have to give any grace period, they can ping you the moment you pass the sign. Fairly sure they're type approved for up to two miles too.
Annoys the hell out of me, because in cases like that where the limit change is some distance away from the danger zone (ie. the houses that actually have driveways that end o the main road) traffic engineers always used to put in a "buffer zone" so that people could start slowing down after the sign.
These days they enforce them strictly, but don't bother to move the buffer zone, which serves no safety purpose and just annoys people.0 -
So it's just a waiting game.0

Yup. Assuming you're the registered keeper, 14 days from the date of alleged offence, plus a couple for postage.0
