bank closing my account

Hello All,
I have had a bit of strange situation.
couple of years ago I had a letter from Loyds to close my bank. They said that they can not disclose why they have closed it . I did take it to ombudsman ( if spelt right) and it got to nowhere and i did find out why they closed it. my account was always in credit and sometime i used to get money from family for couple of grands . they even offered me a cc and over draft .
to cut the story short, it was closed.
now few years later, I had a same letter from barclays saying the same thing and mentioning that they can not open any further accounts for me . i couldn't care less but it starts to worry me why this is happening . I am not a british or eu national and don't think that will be the cause
I spoke to barclays and they said that they can not disclose any further information and have decided to close the account
any ideas why this may be happening
Well .... actually you did say that you had found out the reason ...0 -
It will be nothing to do with ID but what has gone through your account.
Where are you from?0 -

"I did take it to ombudsman ( if spelt right) and it got to nowhere and i did find out why they closed "
it was a typo, if i did then wouldn't have asked why the closed it in here
maybe to do with the account but with barclays i never received any international fund as i finished my uniand was working so no need for any international payments
do u reckon going through ombusdsman or to the branch can get me anywhere? people over the phone are just nonsense0 -
i am simply a normal customer as other people
You are not a normal customer to UK banks.
You are not a UK or EU citizen.
You are a foreign student.
You get large sums of money from more than one foreign bank account of different family members.
This makes it look like to them that you are money laundering.
It may be a good idea for you to only have your dad send you all the money you need at regular intervals.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
This thread has many similarities with the thread

which the OP may find helpful.
There is very little anybody can say to you that hasn't already been covered there. This thread also involves Barclays.0 -
You are not a normal customer to UK banks.
You are not a UK or EU citizen. agreed
You are a foreign student. no longer and am a full time employment
You get large sums of money from more than one foreign bank account of different family members. Actually for barclays no money from any account apart from mine or deposited by me
This makes it look like to them that you are money laundering. if it does, why the fu*k they close it and don't give reason, simply ask for proof of where it is comming from or tell u we close it because we suspect that you are doing something wrong and not like coward, it makes me feel like a theif drag dealer or something similar:)
It may be a good idea for you to only have your dad send you all the money you need at regular intervals.
in additon the money was given to a foriegn exchange which then was paid to my account in the Uk from the foriegn exchange account to mine .0 -

You get large sums of money from more than one foreign bank account of different family members. Actually for barclays no money from any account apart from mine or deposited by me.......for my barclays, I had a loan of 15k which i paid the lump sum into but then took it out
We might come a bit closer to the crux of the matter.
Into your Barclays account you paid in 15k which some party had given you as a loan. Where did that loan come from, from a reputable bank or from a private individual? How was this money paid-in, as a cheque or a transfer (which leaves an audit trail) or was it in cash? Then you took it out again, how soon was that after the deposit had been made? By what means was the money taken out. Channelling monies through several accounts is a classic money laundering method.
Your rather byzantine financial transactions might be innocent, but they look suspicious. Coutts was just find 9 million for not properly investigating their customers. Why would your bank(s) want to risk that, or go through the expense of a thorough investigation (they are not allowed under legislation to ask you about dubious looking transactions, nor can they tell you about their suspicions)?0 -
you have a valid point for me raising a suspicion
however my loan was approved by bank and was paid to my main bank account, this money was then transferred from that account to barclays which i had transfers from and to that account
so barclays can verify the source which is my other bank account and was in my name
the place it went to was another account of my gf where i have sent payments to it before
btw i am interested to know how does sending money through some banks is counted as money laundring, is it because they can not find the source?0 -
The more transfers money makes, the harder it becomes for authorities to trace the source.
Now look at what you just did:
1) Pay money into account 1
2) Transfer from 1 to account 2
3) Transfer from 2 to account 3
All very quickly. Do you not think that look suspicious? Why not just transfer from account 1 to account 3?0
