HELP! Eaten raw chicken what to do
Comments
-
The fact that they have cooking instructions on indicates would imply they need to be cooked, also the absence of the wording 'ready to eat'. However, what is confusing is the fact that some appear raw and some appear to be cooked.0

Jaxxy00....are you OK today?
Whilst the packaging was not really clear, I think part of the problem lies with uncooked items being placed in a reduced section with ready to eat items.
If Jaxxy had picked this up from the raw chicken aisle, then she would probably have looked at the packet closer.
Maybe retailers should have 2 reduced sections, for ready to eat and uncooked.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
You are not the only one to have done this, I ate a raw (or partially cooked) sausage roll! The pastry always looks blimmin' cooked!
Nothing bad happened, felt really sick for a while but that was caused mostly by thinking about it! Eww raw sausage!!
I now err on the side of caution with everything like this, if it doesn't CLEARLY state ready to eat I don't eat it without cooking first.
My mum has also taken an uncooked quiche to a Jacobs Table (?) party - it was a conversation starter!!0 -
Hope you are both o.k.
I atcually have this problem with chicken and mushroom slices and the like. Hubbie eats them straight from the pack. Has done for years. As they have cooking guidelines on some I always thought they had to be cooked and used to nearly be sick when I saw him eating one. But atcually the packet says 'can be eaten cold' But if you you would rather eat it warm pop it in the oven - usually 20 mins/microwave - a min or so.
It is confusing. And think I have just confused myself too!!!
Anyway he eats them from the packet and says they are cooked. I put them in the oven for 20 mins which if they are cooked seems a long time?????
Oh no I am going to start laughing again........0 -
I think the magical words to look for are "ready to eat" and then stating "can be reheated"... personally though I just prefer cooking them from scratch although I remain paranoid even then and often overcook my chicken

The packaging clearly shows the oven symbol with the number of minutes required. Every supermarket packages products in similar packaging when raw and when they are cooked the packaging style varies. Sainsburys uses clear pakaging for chicken which needs cooking too.
Its a case of read the label, and ive never seen pre cooked chicken nuggets!0 -
I agree with thriftlady, try to cook everything from scratch, then you know what goes in and never shop when you are hungry so you are not tempted to buy these things for a quick snack.0

Thanks veryone for your comments. Bit tired to go into depth now but just wanted to let you all know me and my daughter are fine.
We live to tell the tale and laugh ourselves silly. :rotfl:
Will update once i have returned them to tesco.0 -

I've just done the same thing. Picked up a pack of these from Tesco last night thinking they'd be good for a picnic today.
Mindlessly ate one and thought texture was funny inside. Took a better look. They weren't cooked.
I picked them up from an end of aisle stand full of COOKED chicken.
They should put a sticker on it saying less than 15 mins in oven.0
