Road Angel Classic - When is Lifetime Subscription not for Life?

Got my letter which I replied to immediately, requesting they transfer me to the current web site free of charge and I would be happy to pay for the Gem. Having read the 5 pages of comments I was afraid that i was the only one to respond but good to see others with the same views. I think we all know the outcome, they will switch it off on the due date. I still have the original form stating life time subscriptions, and think it is a disgrace to rip off people that have supported the company from the start by paying up front. I would appreciate any legal advice. I see trading standards have been mentioned and small claims. Life time means life time in my book.0

Received a letter like all you guys, most of the points have already been made. My letter just had my postcode and my name on it; miracle I received the letter really.
Road Angel admit in their letter it was a launch promotion i.e. the company was trying to get alot money upfront and I can only assume their attitude was - worry about the headache down the line with all these people having a subscription service RA can't afford long term/or in future they'd gone bankrupt so it didnt matter.
This is the sort of quick buck, short term gain attitude these companies frequently have. Why did they offer it if they had no intention of honouring it? = Profit.
I know its only a small matter in the scheme of things, but it is the principle at the end of the day. If I can give them some hassle over it, rather than just rolling over and taking it, even better. I was planning to use my Road Angel for as long as the company was still running. It still works absolutely fine but with their proposals, it will have to be thrown in the bin. I'm definitely planning a small claims action if they dont improve compensation or change their mind. I used one on Audi and it was so easy to do and I got all my money back without even having to go to court. If a group action does ever come about, count me in!
P.s. With Tom's Tom's now having speed camera function and maps, RA days are numbered anyway, so don't even think of getting the GEM - will be another waste of money as Tom Tom sales will almost certainly force RA into administration one day.0 -
We have a Road Angel classic bought in 2002 and also took out the lifetime subs. We haven't had the letter yet as it probably went to the inlaws house.
I too would like to join the fight but one thing I have noted. They used to be "Black Spot" and are now "Road Angel Group" so they could easily say that was an offer Black Spot made and now do not exist.0 -
I have just returned from holiday to find the letter regarding the Road Angel Classic lifetime subscription and intend to write to them rejecting their derisory offer of the inferior Gem.
Count me in regarding any group action that may be initiated.0 -
have to say I was astounded at their attitude when I phoned today -classic not compatible with windows 7?!! Lifetime subscription (all bought and paid for - not a freebie) cancelled???
I'm definitely in for a group action.
I think we are all due a refund at the very least0 -
How on Earth can they cancel a lifetime subscription , that is a contradiction in terms !!0
