  • hi it could be worth waiting for the jag job. even tho they have changed the start date. u will still definitely have a job. it's very unlikely they would cancel your start date altogether. plus if you are going to the paint shop, happy days, because that's one of the best sections. easy work plus lots of ot. and they don't really put new starters there. so definitely go for it lol

Hi everyone, enjoyed reading through all the pages, got I dilemma though that input would be nice please.
Been working my notice in current job and due to start new job on Monday. If I am being honest it's similar to what I do now but closer to home.
Had a call today from manpower offering me a start date at halewood on 4th sep in the paint section(think she said) on the 3 day shift.
Date than changed to 25th sep.
I want the jag job and happy to wait but it's going to be seven weeks unpaid.. Might be able to scrape by on savings but the other half is worried about waiting if something changes.
Main question is I have been offered and accept the position over the phone but they will not send an email out until the factory is back up and running to confirm, how confident can I be that now I have been offered I have actually got a jag job?
I can take the easy option and start other job on Monday or wait for jag? But need to let this new job know ASAP if that's the case.
    Thanks.
  • replies a bit late, but she probably meant the 2-3 weeks off without pay would be the shutdown. so you wouldn't have accrued enough holidays yet, but I'm pretty sure 11th aug is after shutdown so you should be fine. and they tell all the new starters they can only guarantee you 4 weeks of work/short term contracts or something along those lines, but as long as u graft and are not late you'll be there a while

i did my interview in may and i got a call monday giving me a start date for the 11th of aug...
ive seen on a couple of posts that people who start in august are only being given short term contracts but the woman at manpower told me theres a possibility that i could be off for 2-3 weeks without pay but once they had passed i would be straight back in. now i know first hand manpower are very unreliable so wondering if anyone could help out as to weather they are short term contracts and i will just be F***** off or she might actually be telling the truth.

What's their policy regarding criminal records. Do they not employ people with them or is just people with convictions that are unspent.

The question asked on the initial online process just refers to unspent convictions. I know from reading this thread that people that have lied about not having a record then being sacked once the CRB comes through.

I have the assement in a few weeks and just wondering if it's a waste of time if you have a record from 20+ years ago.
  • as long as the conviction is spent you'll be fine. just make sure you still declare at the interview though.

The criminal record check is a Disclosure Scotland Basic Check.

The only thing that shows are unspent convictions.

At the interview stage you fill in the Disclosure Scotland form and a form allowing Manpower to receive the results directly. At this stage the manpower staff will answer any questions regarding past convictions.
