manual assessment at Jag/Land Rover

Reading through some post i can feel a lot of your frustrations about start dates but believe me when i tell you manpower simply do not know they will have a rough idea but it will be jaguar or land rover management that will tell manpower when where they need new staff as i said in earlier post expect at castle brom to have start dates in the summer shut down its easier for them to do it that way as training rooms are free ect ect the new press shop at castle brom isn't fully finished and wont be for a while its basically an empty shell
unfortunately all you can do is sit tight just call manpower periodically to check with them about start dates0 -
I had a call from manpower about 2 weeks after my interview asking me to start the following week (Halewood).
I actually missed that call as it was about 20:30 and I wasnt expecting it that late. He left a message asking me to call him back, but I was totally unable to get through on any Halewood number.
I rang the recruitment center and was just told to wait, so I went in in person 3 days after the voicemail, while they were still doing interviews and managed to speak to the guy who had left me a message.
Turns out I could have started in BIW, but as he couldnt contact me those positions were filled.
When I spoke to him, he said as I was working it might be best to go for a later start date and hence avoid the shut down unpaid, which despite me being keen to start asap, sounded reasonable.
But he rang me back a few days later and said the August start dates were likely to be more short term contracts.
So Im now starting in trim and final on thursday doing a week each of earlys, lates and nights.
Made up is an understatement... I really needed this opportunity as I was on the brink of joining the army, which at 28 and fairly settled down with the GF, that was far from ideal.
Can any current/past employees fill me in on what Body in White and Trim and Final are like to work in? Sounds like I missed out on not getting BIW.. although trim and final is at a higher rate of pay (pressumably because its hard work.. bring it on )0 -

Although Ive never been in BIW from what ive heard its a peice of cake.
Trim and final on the other hand is very hard graft. You will litrally work non stop(apart from breaks obviously). When I first started I would go home, have food then straight to bed.Ive been a bricky,a labourer and a landscape gardener in the past but nothing compares to trim!
If you get thru the first month or so it gets easier but be prepared to do a lot of running up and down the line in the mean time. You will lose weight, your sanity and your social life but for £14ph its worth it!If organized religion is the opium of the masses, then disorganized religion is the marijuana of the lunatic fringe.0 -

Really? As far as I'm aware, certainly at CB and Solihull, apart from a few specific more skilled jobs, the pay grades for production operatives are the same regardless of whether on Trim and Final, BIW or Paint.
As for it being hard work, that's quite subjective, I have had harder jobs at less pay.
You will ache for the first couple of weeks regardless of how fit you are but you will soon get into the swing of it.0 -

You are correct in that the hourly rate is the same but one section of the BIW the underbody is on continental shifts which boosts the shift allowance by a couple of quid so new starters are on just over £15 instead of just over £13 for three shifts.0 -

I was replying to the poster who said that the Trim and Final got paid more because it was harder work. Nothing to do with shift premium.
I'm on permanent nights, in BIW, so with shift allowance am on about £16.45 per hour.0 -

Yeah I guess it is just the shift patern that effects end pay.
I'm not afraid of working hard and I'm fairly fit, so after a few weeks adjusting I'll be fine. I really need this change, I was getting really fed up in my current job, 6 years now... Last day tomorrow, feels very surreal.
Yeah, are the shifts Monday-Friday every week? With weekends always being overtime? Seems strange that they would not have shifts covering the weekends? Or do they...?0
