Could anyone tell me anything about the manual assessment at JLR Halewood?? Got mine Wednesday and im not sure what to expect.
Thanks.0 -
Good luck to all the people starting on new contracts at Manpower JLR Solihull or Halewood. I have worked at Halewood for 10 months during 2011/12 and was made redundant through a reduction of headcount 4 weeks before signing for my jag temp contract.
I am in the process of re-applying as i received an e-mail from Manpower at Halewood asking me to complete the online assessments again. If i am successful and decide to take the risk again i will certainly go back with my eyes more open than last time. A few hints and tips for people starting out a little unsure:
- Dont be late, off sick, argumentative or refuse overtime if you want a contract
- Dont assume that because you are good at your job this has any bearing on you being kept on
- Your supervisor can sack you but if his boss or his bosses boss; decides that X amount of employees need to go, he has no say in this so take everything said/promised to you with a pinch of salt
- Dont think the union have your back until you get a jag contract, they will pay you lip service and look after their own
- If you have a good/steady job and a mortgage be aware it is a big risk and there is a high chance you wont get a jag contract
- All the induction/NVQ stuff goes out the window once you get in the plant and start work or it did in my area at least
- If you start work in an area which has a lot of manpower staff with earlier start dates, then you are at a disadvantage as its first in last out in most cases
- A job in trim and final on the production line isnt the best way to spend your week but its probably the safest place to work
- Driving, quality and off-track (body finesse) jobs will go first as they are not integral to cars being produced (yes even quality)
A lot of your success will depend on your start date, area you get placed, shift you are put on (headcount etc) before you even think about attendance, punctuality etc. We got shafted with the pay deal at x-mas 2011 which meant new starters now begin on 70% and not 80% any more (an example of the union looking after their own) so i may not go through the same experience, on less money to be finished up again.
Its a great job if you get a contract but prepare for the worst and hope for the best!
Hello Tomo, did you re-apply? I had my manual yesyerday. Got laid off after 11 months last year etc etc.0 -

Good luck buddy, don't think I'm going to accept the job if they offer it me either tbh. My current job is quite varied in comparison to working on a production line and I'm bored of this!
So doing the same task that takes around 5 mins to do for 8 hours a day is certainly not for the weak willed people like myself.0 -

The takt time on a job is about 90 seconds and the jobs are ran at about 115% so there isn't abit standing around matey ! Just have to get on with it and think of the money0
