We have been with autoaid for a few years. Had to use them a few years ago and had no problems with being recovered from Leicester to Reading. Put in a claim and got paid back quickly.

Last summer we had a problem when on holiday. A small relief plug had gone so the cooling water all kept disappearing. We could do a short journey and took several bottles of water to top up but driving all the way back from Malton in North Yorkshire to Reading wasn't a good idea.

We rang on the Saturday, but got told that if they came out they would would to take us home that day. We were due to leave the day after on the Sunday. We tried to find a local garage that could help, but none could fit us in.

Phoned back on Sunday, and it took them several hours to,find a recovery truck that was prepared to take us all the way back to Reading, but eventually got someone.
Put in a claim and got it paid back very quickly. About £500.
Got the car fixed and it was a 10 minute job.

Got the renewal letter through in March. Apparently because of 'the number and nature of our claims' they had to apply a 100% uplift to our premium. We made one claim, they took hours to sort something out, and could have got someone to fix it the day before.

Oh, and they also want to see the service invoice to prove it's road worthy.

The extra amount makes it much less attractive, especially since I currently have AA cover with my new car.

Anyone else had a premium uplift?
Never heard of autoaid doing that if they do then its not on.Not with one claim in a year.I could understand it if there had been a few claims. What about getting it in your wifes name.

    I am the wife. :)

I got a new car last year and that's covered by the AA. So it's only my husbands car that needs to be covered.

We thought about him getting it in his name rather than mine but don't know if they would check on addresses or not and still spot it.

I suspect if I'd have phoned I might have been able to haggle it back down. We may go back with them next year. Certainly the year after when my AA cover runs out.

Just annoyed and wondering if this is now something they do.

Hi mikki, I usualy change car every 3 years, AA free year 1, 75% discount year 2, now it's £168, with 25% discount, and won't budge.
    Just cancelled again.
Going with Autoaid, which I've used before, and were good, came out 3 times at home, flat battery( lack of use)2 cars then, just a warning that they wouldn't come again for same problem.FAIR.
AA Rac are beggars for wapping year 3 up.
Only problem, Autoaid don;t offer ?? courtesy car.but, I'm just gonna do it now:-) stuff aa.

Hi Guys, a few years back MSE advertised FirstCall breakdown,in their suggested companies, and I used them for 3 years, and good they were too, on my second car.
Response was good, needed to call them twice. I notice they still operate, for £42.50, full uk cover.
Anyone use them now, wonder why MSE don't show them, yet show Green who don't have a track record or feedback?

I went with Green Insurance Company for several years - called them out 3 or 4 times over that time; 2 flat tyres (yes I played the girl card!), 1 wouldn't start and another I can't remember. They send a local recovery service, but you deal with it all through Green Insurance. The local guys were always helpful and friendly. I am about to renew again with them with the car I've had just over a year. Not sure why there isn't more feedback on them. My dad uses them too and is very happy with their service.

    Hi, thanks for reply.
    the same thing with Firstcall.
They use local guys, no problem.
    there must be several people who prefer to not have to pay up front, as green do , until you break down, you have no idea of the cost;
it's certainly cheap, and you have confirmed you have no problems with them.
normally on here, if a company isn't A1, there's always a load of negative feedback.
like AA prices.et.al. I cannot be bothered with cashback sites.
    weird.

My AA cover with my new car is for three years, nothing to pay. Form personal experience I wouldn't choose them even if they were cheaper. Have driven a company car with AA cover that broke down. They took 3 hours to get to me, despite me being told I was a priority call (lone female on hard shoulder of motorway).

My big issue with autoaid was them wanting to charge us double this year, after we made ONE claim. Just one. For two cars it would be worth it, but for another two years it's only to cover my husbands car, until my AA cover runs out. Not sure who he went with in the end. I left him to sort himself out.

I'm still curious to know of anyone else has had their premium increased due to claims. Many people on here seem to have made several, and no mention of it.

There's no mention of this on their website. Are they aware you are married?. You may have been quoted as a unmarried couple.

I thought autoaid covered the person/s, not the car?
If it's a renewal, then, they must know from the first year, you are married.
    Did they specify it was because of a claim? If so, it's hardly worth having breakdown for 1 claim only;
I still haven't renewed yet, got 2 weeks of aa left.
thought there may have been more feedback about green insurance.
if their service is good, as earlier post says, it's a no brainer?
surely there's more than 1 person on this blog uses them?
You get umpteen on here moaning about AA, leaving, but, where do they all go.
    Surely, not all to autoaid?
unless, they just go back to AA, and say nowt.
Even double £39 is still cheaper than AA?

    The renewal letter said
"Due to the number and nature of your claims, we have had to apply a 100% uplift on your premium." So yes it is because of the claim. (Not that they have suddenly decided we are not married)

We only made one claim. One. Think it was £600 but it was recovery from North Yorkshire to Reading.
We made one claim about 4 years ago. Other than that we have not made any claims in about 7 or 8 years.

    They also said
"We also require proof that the vehicle has been serviced"

If we were covering both cars then even with the uplift it was worth staying with them, but as my car is covered by the AA already, it wasn't worth it for one car.

I notice some people make several claims a year, but no one seems to have encountered premium uplifts. Just me.:(
