  • Just purchased breakdown cover with Green Flag through Quidco cashback website - Recovery Plus cover (details of cover on following link):

    http://www.greenflag.com/breakdown-cover/recovery-plus.html

Website quote was £64 - then with £35 cashback through Quidco total cost £29. Bargain I think?!

RAC were quoting over £100 for same level of cover and with £40/£50 cashback through Quidco.

States that cashback will take a few months.

I note that Quidco's RAC current cashback deal expires in a few hours. Is this a regular occurance? Will they replace the current offer with a new one or will that be that for now?

I have just checked Quidco and seen that RAC are still offering cashback post expiry date. They are exactly the same as before despite being lauded as 'increased rate'. Looks like the RAC are fast becoming the 'Tesco' of breakdown companies.

Recently had a breakdown (clutch went catastrophically) and gave Green Flag a call. They said someone would be there within an hour and so I thought "great".

As somewhat expected, after an hour, I got a call from the subcontractor (Westbourne Motors) stating that a truck would be there in approx. 2 hours, so I thought "okay", delays are more often than not expected, and continued waiting patiently by the roadside.

In the end, it took 4 hours for a van to come, for them to agree with my initial comments about requiring recovery and then a further 4 hours for the truck to arrive!

So in total, 8 hours from breakdown to recovery which I have to say must be a record for a complete failure in service! It later transpired that the Operators had booked the job as lower priority (maybe because I'm a bloke?) and screwed up! Case and point - they sent the recovery truck to repair a flat tyre and sent the van to me where the clutch had gone!

Reading on here, looks like RAC/AA/Green Flag are all as bad as each other (or realistically, your luck depends on where you breakdown, time of day etc.)

Maybe time to try AutoAid for next year.

    Hello there

Can anyone advise a company who would offer breakdown cover for a fleet of 5 or 6 cars please?

    Thank you.

we've been with autoaid about8 years now and used them about 5 times. Each time the response time was less than an hour sometimes only 20 mins. Its local garages that come out. I send off the receipts or job sheet and get the cheques back within a few days . Excellent for us. My son who is also with them had no card to pay with, when he broke down and we arranged that I would pay with my card ( from my home)- then he was on his way again quickly. Auto aid told me if we had no cash/cards etc, they would not leave people stranded, but would work out a solution. Full marks.

Can somebody help quickly please (renewal today). We are not married and so cannot use Autoaid but have got a quote from AutoNational (same company) for 2 cars. Will that cover both of us? Thanks.

i dont know about autonational but if the cover is for both cars than anybody driving that car would be covered.

If the cover is for you than only you are covered in any car. So you need to check if it covers the car or you

Thanks - it is car based cover I found out in the end. Looks like good value (e.g. 18 months cover for new policies).

We have been with autoaid for a few years. Had to use them a few years ago and had no problems with being recovered from Leicester to Reading. Put in a claim and got paid back quickly.

Last summer we had a problem when on holiday. A small relief plug had gone so the cooling water all kept disappearing. We could do a short journey and took several bottles of water to top up but driving all the way back from Malton in North Yorkshire to Reading wasn't a good idea.

We rang on the Saturday, but got told that if they came out they would would to take us home that day. We were due to leave the day after on the Sunday. We tried to find a local garage that could help, but none could fit us in.

Phoned back on Sunday, and it took them several hours to,find a recovery truck that was prepared to take us all the way back to Reading, but eventually got someone.
Put in a claim and got it paid back very quickly. About £500.
Got the car fixed and it was a 10 minute job.

Got the renewal letter through in March. Apparently because of 'the number and nature of our claims' they had to apply a 100% uplift to our premium. We made one claim, they took hours to sort something out, and could have got someone to fix it the day before.

Oh, and they also want to see the service invoice to prove it's road worthy.

The extra amount makes it much less attractive, especially since I currently have AA cover with my new car.

Anyone else had a premium uplift?
