Not pregnant, but thinking about starting a family.
I got my SIL a lovely bath gift set really cheap - I bought one of these baths where it supports the baby (£5 at ASDA) - it is exactly the same as the one my other SIL (on the posh side) spent £20.00 on! I have knitted my nephew/nieces things - 99p ball of wool and some spare time. You can get some lovely patterns in the charity shops.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -

I'm having my first baby and was thinking about reusable nappies - I think the ones that use terry cloths or muslin squares are the cheapest. I was wondering if I could make them myself may be from old white t-shirts, and then I'll have to buy only the outer layers(pants).Any ideas or any advice will be greatly appreciated. Please share your experience if you've used reusables with your baby(s). Thank you,

You can also make your own flat nappies from tie dyed old jersey bed sheets, velour is a new discovery, great for making little posh bum wipes from.0 -
Washable nappies - you might struggle, I'd think, just making them out if t-shirts. Even muslin nappies only last a few short weeks before they're not absorbant enough. A pack of muslins for the first few weeks, followed by terries and the appropriate sized wraps should be the cheapest option. Infact I remember my mum using the terries she used on mh sister and I as cleaning cloths for years afterwards!
I personally use a shaped nappy and wrap most of the time, with a few pocket nappies for convenience for others looking after bubs. I'd strongly recommend speaking with a nappy advisor, either online or at a nappuchino near you for advice. Take a look at the washable nappies thread on the mse families board too.0 -
Thank you for all your replies about reusable nappies!
I think pocket ones are a good idea, from what I understand so far. And I'll definitely try to speak to a nappy advisor.
I'm thinking about making my own washable breast pads, I'd love to breastfeed. What material do you think is the best and how thick they should be for leakages?
Also what maternity/breastfeeding bras do you girls find the best?If you feel my post has been useful, " merci" would not go amiss.

Hello!
After 5 years TTC i am finally pregnant (only 5 wks) :j
Im wondering if someone could kindly point me in the direction of any existing links to having a baby OS, on a budget, without spending very much at all!
Or if there aren't any then tell me what the absolute essentials are and what i really shouldn't bother with!
So excited and scared all at the same time!Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
Big congratulations! I'm sure there will be lots of existing ideas and threads already but one thing I would do is ask on free cycle or ask friends for any equipment and clothes toys etc, it really is not worth buying new.
Obviously breast feeding can save you a fortune but keep an open mind about
Good luckxx
