Having a baby Old Style???

Missminx and Sarahsaver, I'm just wondering about duvets and co-sleeping? I have a book called 'Sleeping with your baby' which lists duvets as a no-no if you're co-sleeping - it is an American book, though, and I know that duvets are far less common than sheets and blankets (which drive me nuts!) in the US. Are duvets really that unsafe if you keep them tucked well down and away?
The same book says not to consider co-sleeping unless you have a king-size or queen-sized bed. Does anyone have experience of successfully co-sleeping in your bog-standard double?0 -
Re: car travel, we have been given a maxi cosi, hopefully this is ok to use from Birth / from the hospital - is this the case?
I think this is the one:

That car seat is fine sparkle the hospital should have no problem with it.
With regards all the advice about co sleeping - Thank you. I am researching it thoroughly. OH and I have a super king size bed (he is very tall!) which makes me feel better because there is loads of room!! I did have DS2 in with me in a normal double though and don't remember it being a problem. The odd thing is when you're breast feeding I think you're tuned into your babies needs and I felt like I instinctively knew where he was in the night and that he was ok. As soon as I stopped BF and switched to bottle though I felt like I lost that instinct and just didn't feel safe with him next to me anymore. Has anyone else experienced this???!!!
The moral to that story for me is don't give up BF because bottles are a right pain!!!!!!#118 DFW Debt freely Christmas 2012 Challenge0 -
i had a summer baby so for breatfeeding i wore to think £1 vest tops from primark and did one up one down and i also highly recommend reusable breastpads, you could even make your own, and your just throw them in the wash (an underwear bag is good for this as there abit small)
What an excellent idea :T I don't mind people seeing my boobies so much :rotfl: but really hate showing off my belly. I'm going to steal that idea thank you!!!!#118 DFW Debt freely Christmas 2012 Challenge0 -
I have coslept in a normal double, but now i co sleep with 2 thats why i got a bigger bed. i have a duvet i just do not have it up to my shouldres and never over my children, its pulled up so the corner is over my shouldre IYSWIM. Most of the co-sleeping deaths are wrongly reported as co sleeping as many were accidental, and one sad case i heard of in the USA where the baby drowned because it had a bottle propped up on it, others with drunken mothers on sofas. That is NOT co sleeping that is neglect. Being alone for a baby is a lot more risky than sharing its bed with an aware parent.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Yes, there have been studies that demonstrate exactly that!
Because we live in a culture that regards giving babies artificial formula as the norm, any problems or fussiness in a breast-fed baby is met by "give a bottle". If you keep going, it usually sorts itself out; whilst if you artificially feed, you often add in another layer of problems.
The Foundation for the Study of Infant Death give the official advice on co-sleeping, backed by the Department of Health, but do err greatly on the side of caution (am astonished that mine survived!)
Unicef baby-friendly initiative offers sensible advice, and if you need to talk it through, speak to a midwife or health visitor0 -
Dear Old Stylers,
I'm having my first baby and was thinking about reusable nappies - I think the ones that use terry cloths or muslin squares are the cheapest. I was wondering if I could make them myself may be from old white t-shirts, and then I'll have to buy only the outer layers(pants).Any ideas or any advice will be greatly appreciated. Please share your experience if you've used reusables with your baby(s). Thank you,
NatashaIf you feel my post has been useful, " merci" would not go amiss.

go to ebay in the nappy section and you will see pocket nappies for £2.56 each. i replaced my terries with these, they get a 10/10 from me and you can use mostly anything to fill the pocket with, microfibre cloths, old terries or old t-shirts even!

These are the cheapies, I have only used the camo popper print nappies and not the velcro so cant vouch for those ones

these ones range from about £2.49 for cow print nappies

the inserts but you can make these yourself from microfibre cloths from the £1 shop, old t-shirts cut up and folded in to pads, old towels or terries. Bought inserts can come in Hemp, Cotton, Bamboo, Microfibre and zorb, these are fleece lines so eliminate the use of a liner, liners also come in fleece, paper, minkee and silk
Or if you want to go for a premium brand of nappy Tesco's direct sell lots of mainstream brands like totsbots
Or twinkle on the web sell very good sized terries a 40x40cm terry would do a new born, a 60x60 would do any baby until about 8/9 months, they also do a 70x70 and 75x75 for older/bigger babies, these come in cotton and bamboo too.0 -
they're birth to potty too so you wont need to buy bigger sizes.0

I used reusable nappies on all three of mine and loved them I liked tots bots ones(with velcro) with motherease airflow wraps(one with poppers) and I hardly ever had a leak. They is a good website www.usednappies.co.uk that sells second hand ones I bought mine on ebay before they decided not to allow you to sell them on there. I was selective and bought ones that had been used once or twice or prewashed only and when you have finished with them you can sell them on. Saved me a fortune on disposables,Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.
