    LOL! It usually happens:

    a) Just after a nice clean bath

    b) Just as someone comments what a lovey baby he/she is!

    c) When MIL is holding baby!

lol! my baby is kept fairly regular because my husband eats oranges at night. baby always grabs whatever daddy is eating and has a suck (great way to persuade him to try something - he thinks a glass of plain tap water is the greatest treat in the world because it's daddy's!).

roo makes a funny noise when he's tired but doesn't want to go to sleep and it sounds like he's filling his nappy, so several times a day people ask if he's straining, and tell me their constipation remedies. do all baby threads end up being about poo? :rotfl:

here's a moneysaving tip - don't buy farleys rusks. everyone i know says their husbands sneakily eat them.

I remember when Ethan was a baby (hes 3 now) Asda and Tesco changing rooms had free Nappies, but I suppose some people got greedy and I don't think they do that anymore.

In an emergency, try asking at customer services, I know Tesco and Sainsbury's used to give you ONE if you asked but it was a while ago.

Luckily Ethan was dry at 2 1/2, but I'm expecting number3 in 2weeks and 2days, so I'll bear that in mind - thanks!

maybe the reason you need to take care when weaning bottlefed babies is that after 6 months their own iron stores run out, and maybe breastmilk contains enough but formula doesn't, in any case the iron in breastmilk is easy for them to digest so they absorb more. so when weaning a bottlefed baby you'd need to ensure they had some iron in their diet or got enough through their milk (so some people use follow on milks)..
Formula also looks as though it has huge quanitities of iron because, I believe, that artificial iron is less easy to absorb and the higher the quantity the less it is absorbed so they add more and less is absorbed and more is needed.....
Beware, some unscrupulous formula companies try to imply that follow-on has lots more iron than breastmilk and is therefore better. They aren't allowed to actually say this but if you read their literature, you are left with this impression.

despite being advised not to feed before 6 months i don't know anyone who waited that long, some of the babies we know were on 3 meals a day by 3 months old, including pasta meals. the jars of baby food still say suitable from 4 months (or 4-6) even if they contain gluten
I used to sit as an NCT rep on a hospital feeding policy committee and the health visitors and midwives had an unofficial league table as to who had been asked the earliest about giving tea in a bottle. The record was 2 days old!!!

I used to drink tea in my bottle- milky tea was all I would drink 'till about 6! LOL! Funnily enough I can't even take the smell of the stuff now- I find it so revolting!

i can't remember what caffeine stops you absorbing, is it iron, calcium, something like that? my friend used to give her daughter tea in a bottle, and by the age of 4 she was a witch in the mornings until she'd had 2 cups of tea, i used to dread that child staying at our house lol!

when i worked at mcdonalds i saw one mum put coke into her child's bottle. i asked how old the baby was, and she was really proud of her 8 month old's ability to eat chicken nuggets and chips. having seen the amount of salt poured onto those chips i think there oughht to be an age limit, something like no happy meals for children under 3 years.

fulltimemum i've had information from a formula company and it does suggest that breastmilk is inferior to follow on milk. it says you should ask your health visitor for iron supplements if you're breastfeeding, as the baby doesn't get enough! but breastmilk contains absorbable iron, babies need less of it.

I think, but don't take this as gospel, that you need Vit C to help absorb iron and that caffeine inhibits the bodys ability to absorob Vit C.

    Some babies do 'ave 'em.
Like the age restricted Happy Meal idea - how about making it 16 though!

I had a panic a few years ago when I received such a brochure. I showed it to my health visitor and asked if I needed to use iron supplements and was told that so long as my child was eating a varied diet and was drinking sufficient breastmilk there was no problem.

  • Just wanted to post something - I don't know if it has been posted already on this thread, and of course it is probably something you already know, but if you buy a second hand cot, make sure you buy a new matress for it.

Good luck with trying for a baby - have fun :D
