MSE News: Stamp prices likely to rise as cap confirmed

I did.
A much higher price for a poorer service (for me) - I simply switched to sending less mail and doing more online/by telephone/in person etc..
But that's not a sustainable way for Royal Mail to maintain the health of its long term business.
Regards
Sunil
neither is offering services at a loss0 -
BBC has an article on the comparative price of a 1st class letter. 5th most expensive in Europe in nominal terms and 7th PPP adjusted. 8th and 10th most expensive in the world, respectively.why compare them to a courier service?
That comparison isn't entirely fair, because of quality of service, geography or size of the country etc, but it's an interesting one nevertheless:bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17614367

yeah I read it(or the same on another site)
As you say its not an easy thing to compare
given the present set up,I think 5th in Europe isnt bad.
world figures arent really relevant as the differences are massive on most factors.
for example, seemingly Dubai has no deliveries at all. people collect their mail from PO boxes.0 -
I havent looked at all the posts but I do think Royal Mail have done a good job. what other company would have went to so much trouble when i had s poorly addressed parcel (my own fault). The system of the posting company had put my mums postcode and my address mixed with hers! But when I called sorting office, they were so good, they had already called the delivery company, got the local postie at mums to try figure out who it was for and also try figure out the address for me by calling round various places! I think thats good service. they then got parcel sent back to them and posted to my mums address!!
they often in remote areas provide more than just post and also make sure cost of postage (although I know delivery times vary) are equal whether you live in highlands and islands or in London!0 -
I seem to have noticed an improvement in the security at Royal Mail ?
Still remember a Panorama (?) programme where the post was being delivered in East London by immigrant agency labour. Not only did they have pathetic knowledge of geography but they openly boasted about being able to identify items worth stealing, as a nice extra source of remuneration.0 -

I dont see where you see the improvement?
RM still use massive amounts of agency labour, especially in the big smoke0 -
Perhaps people no longer buy things worth instant cash - such as CDs - and perhaps the banks are more savvy at sending out potential fraud communications - such as replacement plastic cards?
Or perhaps fraud has become so widespread that it is no longer news, especially when compared with "rioting".
I've been waiting for something serious to happen with Hatton Garden Metals scrap gold business ?0 -

the media goes with what gets viewers, readers etc
dog attacks, suddenly the news is full of it
stamp prices go up,suddenly priuces are flavour of the month.
I'm quite surprised(and i may be a self fullfiling prophesy here) no journo has tied the stamp rise with a recent pay rise for RM staff(agreed in 2010)0 -
I have to say that I still think this is unbelievably cheap!
Am I the only one?
60 pence to send something from Ashford to Aberdeen is fantastic value! What I DO think the RM need to do is regionalise postage - so the further you send something the more it costs, as ultimately it uses more fuel/carriage costs.
I'm also still waiting for Tesco's to launch their own postal service - a "post office" in every tesco's would be really handy (well, where I live it would where there's one on every corner)0 -
I wouldnt mind the price hike if they actually delivered on there promises.
I buy pretty much everything off the internet, I will actually go out of my way not to use people that use royal mail. So lets say I buy something that is 1st class guaranteed next day delivery it doesnt come next day. However royal mail dont consider it to be late until it 15 days past its expected delivery date. That is a joke!!!!
We need to take control of this county and get rid of the 90% crooked and disgusting politicians who are mainly all there on who they know and are mostly stupid and uneducated. PS having a degree is not education it taxation!
Watched question time the other week and the panel was asked should we become a republic, we already are a republic and none of them understood this. America is a republic but soon becoming a dictatorship like we are also becoming.0
