MSE News: Stamp prices likely to rise as cap confirmed

I think the US postal service guaranteed their stamps indefinitely, but yes the privatisation is a risk to a pre-April buying strategy. I can see this hike being a big cash boost as people rush in, with the risk that new stamps will be issued in a few years time!0

my two local post offices are not happy as well ... post is now delivered and collected when they want, unlike before when it was regular. I'm told some days they don't even turn up to collect !!! that's modernisation.0

I was wondering if I could make a quick profit by buying these in bulk, so I had a look what sort of prices stamps go for on ebay. I was expecting a small discount to retail price, but to my surprise they actually seem to be selling for more.
For example, current for sale are:
12x2nd class for £4.99 - retail price £4.32
12x1st class for £6.39 - retail price £5.52
6 x1st class for £3.99 - retail price £2.76
... what is going on???0 -

Can you send me the link, is it free postage? (bizarrely) why anyone should wan't to buy expensive stamps goodness knows! I suppose it assumes people can't divide and calculate the cost!0 -

Mainly interested in the last 20 years or so.
It does seem to be rocketing in recent years, I think First Class were at 20-30p within my lifetime.

I'd just as soon as give the money I'd spend on postage and cards to the charities directly - at least they get the full amount that way - and tell friends and family that a donation was given to that charity in lieu of cards via a nice e-card.
The Royal Mail is expensive, poorly managed and inefficient, and all three will be its downfall.0
