I have shown on this thread that I pay Utility Warehouse less for my gas and electricity than I would to any other company or combination of companies. I do this in the way that I choose. At least one independent person frequenting this thread found that the overall deal worked for him too.

You haven't shown you pay less to UW at all.

What you keep saying is that you pay your expensive bill partly in cash and partly by way of the "cashback" you get credited to your bill.

Moneysavers have pointed out this is a waste of your "cashback".

You could be getting your energy much cheaper elsewhere, then doing whatever you choose with your card "cashback"!

You refer to one "independent" person who frequents this thread - presumably this would be "carmine" - the same character the uw reps are told is "carmine does it for us" over on the uw reps forum, where the reps themselves are urged not to post here.

Also remembering the "carespress" post on moneysupermarket - and you naively want us to believe you when you tell us he's "independent"?

There's no Asda near where I live. Therefore it would be no good for me.

I am a Utility Warehouse independent distributor and the views I express may not be shared by the company.

It would be just as good if not better as you can use it at Sainsburys too

And its cashback as opposed to "credit towards expensive gas and electricity-back"
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

That's not why it would be no good for you!

Don't you get a fiver for each risky uw card you sell? So of course any other card is "no good" as far as you are concerned!

Of course any person can make an informed decision when they have information provided.

Of course they can make an informed decision; but the majority of UW customers obviously haven't! They have believed the claptrap about the TVG etc. The whole ethos of UW sales is to get the customer to trust the salesman.

Do you honestly think UW customers would knowingly spend £hundreds more for their gas and electricity if it was an 'informed decision'?

You still haven't given any comment why the average UK customer should chose to spend £8,000pa in shops that accept the UW card just to get back the extra UW charge for their gas and electricity?

If the UW card really is the only one that suits - then get Broadband or phone(or both) from UW, and gas and electricity from a cheap supplier.

    P.S.
Have we seen the last of your enquiries about Quentin's cashcard?;)

Some interesting forum posts here about Utility Warehouse allegedly ripping people off.

An extremely high utility bills in excess of £200 per month due to poor a/c management by utility warehouse

Another one referencing an individual racking up a debt of £7000 pounds to utility warehouse and then they broke in to his house demonstrating very poor customer services at the very least

Another one referencing the BBC's Rip off Britain were looking at Utility Warehouse.

and several others, quite interesting really.

  • Hello again, I have been told I must add my questions to this discussion
so now I am hoping some of you nice people can help confirm if my figures are correct
my electricity is with Southern *2650kwh 30pm and gas with BG *17300 60pm.
The offer from Utility club was a bit confusing but they wanted me to keep paying the same amount each month but I would guarantee savings to get back at the end of the year.
Now after googling and reading the links to comparison sites I think I can save over 200pa going onto BG Websaver 5 and keep my Virgin service just the way it is.

My neighbour who is the one that introduced the Utility man to us used in the past year used more gas than us at 26500kwh and a little less electricity at 2600kwh and has their telephone service 2440 evening minutes and 135 day minutes received 191.17p discount with the card scheme.
So, if she moves gas and electric to Scottish Power saving 290, keeps the telephone with Utility Club and still gets the discount I think this means she gets her phone and calls for free.
Can anyone confirm if my figures are right ?? Please forgive me if I ramble a little but this has taken a lot of time to try and work out. why do companies make it so hard to see what is the best value. Grrrrrr.

You need to post your location, or nearby postcode (not yours!) is you want some confirmation of your figures as electricity prices vary from area to area.

Different regions have different prices, I think it goes back to the old regional electricity boards. If you were in the East Midlands you'd be paying £82 less using EON and British gas standard tarrifs.
From your info you are paying
£373 pa for gas and £708 pa for electricity = Total of £1081.

UW would cost you £1012 pa a saving of 6% in line with their triple guarantee.
The cheapest for you would be NPower online 17 at £758 saving 30%
    BG Websaver 5 was £796 a 26% saving.

Hopefully this is similar to what you have found.

PS UW's telephony and broadband is provided by Carphone Warehouse (Talk Talk ) and their gas and electricity are provided by N-Power.

It goes back to the days when you had BG for gas and your regional supplier for the elctricity, the electricity is still split into the 14 different regions but you can be with any supplier (and they all charge different rates depending on the region)
