The membership fee is £1.76 per month, not £25.

I don't know about other distributors, but, I hand the tariff guide to prospective customers so that they can check UW prices against their current provider. People can make up their own mind as to whether they want to sign up or not. My overall package for gas, electricity, mobile phone and landline with broadband is still the best value for me in my circumstances. That of course includes paying the £1.76 per month membership fee.

Nigel, so fed up with seeing rants against the company on here that I've decided to start trying to earn some commission for my UW distributorship again.

Oh, I say, I suspect NOT the result they were after :rotfl:. Nice one, go for it! Maybe UW are missing a trick here, they could use this thread and its incessantly obsessive naysayers as motivation for lapsed distributors.

PS Their ridiculous negativity is almost making me want to join and sign up the mates they clearly can't be arsed to help save money on their utility bills.

UW people go to see people, show them what we have and said people either say 'yes' or 'no'. People have the choice to say 'yes' or 'no'. Whether or not they are friends, family or anyone else and untill they sign the application form and they are not a customer. They have the regulatory 14 days cooling off period wherby they can cancel. It's not a big deal.

Cardew is obessessed with this 'friends and family routine'. They have the same choices too. And I'm sorry to burst your balloon but down to some weird phsycological/cultural attitudes you are likely to have more success with people that you're not emotionally involved with. People close to you don't want to see you succeed and make a go of something because it makes them aware of their lack of success and motivation to make things better for themselves. It's the old jealousy stuff raising it's very hideous head again. Maybe that's your problem too? Who knows.

You go to see people, show them the brochure and tariff, if they want it, they do, if they don't want it they don't. So what?

We show people the brochure, tariff guide. The guarantees are there, if we couldn't uphold them we wouldn't be allowed to be in business and would have our licence taken away from us - the industry is regulated by ofgem. and ofcom. And don't give me all that crap about ASA adjudications etc, the big 6 have fallen foul of them many, many times so don't make us out to be the only perpetrators!

Have a look, see what you think, if it's something for you, go for it. If it's not, don't go for it.

    Easy, init?

You include mention of the guarantees in your presentation. So what are the guarantees?

Questions are never answered. Your guarantees to be competitive don't include any on line tariffs, any dual fuel tariffs, you don't include your club fee in the guarantee, and all you guarantee is to be "competitive" with the big 6.

But what do you mean by "competitive"? How does any of your customers claim against the guarantee? What remedy do they have?

The last rep who tried to answer this claimed that should anyone find you weren't the cheapest, then you would pricematch, but even his colleague uw reps jumped on him for that saying it wasn't true.

    It seems worthless.

    Unless you can help?

Talking of which.........which energy supplier would you recommend, Quentin? :rotfl:And stop pretending I'm on your ignore list, because you were reading that thread I linked to on here the other day (yes, I checked your profile!), you know, the one where you and your best friend in this thread, Cardew, were having a real humdinger of an argument which resulted in you reporting him to the Abuse Team. :p

    I apologise. My mistake.

So that makes £26.76 per month for a pretty bill.

My point is, someone asked what people's experiences with UW were and I gave mine. I was immediately lambasted and lumped in with the reps. I resent this as I am not at all affiliated with UW, just happy to point out that I am pleased with what I get from them.

No-one asked for any experiences with uw.

The post remains for all to see.

It was placed in the internet forum, and specifically asked for any experience with the uw broadband:
I am just considering moving to UW broadband. Although the Broadtalk laptop package is a 2 year contract, it is £29.95 per month with unlimited calls (overseas included) daytimes, evenings and weekends. Basically I can get the same deal elsewhere for £19.95, so it means a tenner a month for two years to get a 'freebie' laptop, which doesn't seem to onerous.

Any views, better suggestions, or particularly does anyone (not a UW distributors view please) have any experience of the service?

It has become a regular occurrence for uw supporters (who know they cannot post outside of this thread) to seize on opportunities like this when they can jump in to a thread outside this one and use it to extol the virtues of the uw, as you did!

You go to lengths to reasure us you don't have an axe to grind, never make claims etc
I have no interests in UW other than my own custom. I have never made any claims about UW prices, offers, or even said that being a member (or paying a standard charge as you seem to prefer) gives any kind of benefit.

This is just untrue, you have done so this week - (posting in the up your income forum how marvellous you find the uw, and told us you do recommend it to other people) - and you told us the hard to believe savings your parents now make since you got them to join uw.

You claim that since they transferred their gas, electric, internet and telephone to the uw, the cost for all these services combined (plus the membership fee) is the same amount each month that they previously paid for just their gas. i.e. you expect us to believe that the uw is so cheap, your parents are now getting their electricity, phone and internet for nothing, compared to the charges they paid prior to joining.
I do recommend them to other people........my parents took the same services as me and their monthly bill now is the same as just their monthly gas bill from British Gas.

If true, these savings are remarkable, and we should all be queueing up to get them!

Alternatively, your resentment at being lumped in with other uw reps and supporters who do make similar misleading claims is a little hard to swallow!

@ Cardew: I've since discovered that UW requested a meter reading since their estimate didn't tally with British Gas' reading. British Gas were still charging my parents as though two of my siblings still lived at home, when in fact they had moved out some two months previous. Probably my parents fault for not requesting a reading, but it explains the difference in bill amounts. What Quentin fails to appreciate is that I haven't set out to mislead anyone. I was unaware of this at the time. Nonetheless, UW have worked out cheaper than British Gas for my parents, when the adjusted figures have been taken into account. In hindsight perhaps I should have phoned my mother and checked the facts with her, but it was late and I'm sat at my PC thinking 'why is this guy so hateful towards UW? I don't think they're bad at all.'

I'm not for or against UW - I haven't signed up purely because when I have done the calculations, they were more expensive than I could get elsewhere (that is also without taking into account the £72 cashback I received from Scottish Power for switching).

However, I'm sure if I go back and just use estimated figures, I could find a way to make it appear that UW is cheaper :rotfl: (sorry I couldn't resist that one).

If someone could post genuine figures and confirm that UW will be cheaper than I can get elsewhere, I will definitely switch - until then, I will simply get the cheapest online / dual fuel tariff available and collect my cashback when I switch.
  • I pay the bill onbehalf of somebody, they refuse to pay by DD. My option is to call the 0844, which is expensive or pay by BACS when I see the bill.

Any advice on other methods to pay or geographical numbers i can call?

    Thank you
