I found some more bits in the T&Cs:
12 x) An Administration Fee of £5 per month if your membership of the Utility
Warehouse Discount Club ceases, for as long as a positive balance remains on the card, or the total Available Balance if lower than the Administration Fee;
15 a) i) If you cease to be a member of the Utility Warehouse Discount Club for any reason:
i) you will not receive any further Cashback associated with your use of any Cards on your account;
So by the looks of it-
You need to apply for one other service to become a member of the UW
Once a member, you need to pay the monthly fee.
The T&Cs imply that you can continue being a member, but take no other live services (i.e. you cancel the services, and continue paying the monthly membership fee)
If you cancel all other live services, the higher (£2) rate applies to the card.
As long as you remain a member (by paying the monthly fee), you can continue using the card, and will continue to receive cashback.
As soon as you cease to be a member (e.g. by not paying the monthly fee), you'll start getting the £5 admin charge for the card, and can't receive cashback.
While not in the spirit of the offer, it looks as though you can get the cashback card on its own from UW, as long as you're prepared to faff around a little at first. The monthly and top-up charges are then small compared with the incremental benefits that you'd get from this card versus any other discount card that I've seen...
Not sure if I'd have the cheek to ever try that though.hee hee
Not according to Quentin. Perhaps you could ask him for the link to this UW-beating cashback card? We've all tried in vain!Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Unfortunately no. The idea is for the CBC to be used to reduce your UW bills. So you have to take at least one major service.
Expecting keggs to say "yes" is like expecting turkeys to vote for christmas. The ts + cs contradict him anyway!
Where will his monthy commission (for doing nothing) from the expensive utilities come from if all his customers spot this lophole?
At the moment its the only way they make their energy prices look "competitive" (by banging on about the risky cashcard reducing the cost) - but it's surely better for moneysavers to get discount/cashback off your shopping and buy your utilities from the cheapest suppliers elsewhere.0 -
Perelandra wrote: »Aye... that makes sense Steve, just wondering what is meant by this bit that MIke pulled from the T&Cs though:
"if you do not have at least one live service provided by the Utility Warehouse in addition to your Card(s), then the Monthly Management fee for each Card is £2;"
Since that would imply that you can have a CBC, but no live service?
I think what it means is that if for some reason the service you have signed up for hasn't gone live before you start using your card. Occasionally when you are in the process of transferring a service from another company the other company refuse to transfer or delay it for some reason. There have been instances where this happened. When this happens the service can't go live with UW. Not UW's fault I stress. It maybe for instance that an energy company is dragging its heels - perhaps they are expecting money owing to them by a customer and they are slow in processing it. It does take several weeks for energy to be processed even though switch over is just one day. That's what I've been given to understand.
I presume your own services are live so if that's the case you shouldn't have a problem.
Good luck with the CBC. To benefit members only need to take one service -the number taken doesn't matter as far as I am aware.
Incidentally, don't forget to take advantage of the customer discount plan. If you don't know what this is let me know and I'll explain.
Hope that helps

Where's the link to your own fantastic (but likely fictitious) cash back card? :rotfl:0 -
HaHa! He's scurried off back to Insurance Forum. Seriously, what IS it about the members of the AUWF when it comes to backing up their 'claims'?Call me Carmine....

Does Quentin spend all day on this forum do you think? I've got better things to do. I only visit when I've got a break. No wonder he posts a lot. I wouldn't have the energy or inclination.0

My friend is a publican and is interested in signing up. Are there any special requirements for publicans, bearing in mind the state of the pub trade in the UK. Will UW need some kind of bond?
I think they do for energy. I seem to remember something. I'll try and find out for you unless someone with more knowledge can remember.

By the way Carmine - just as a matter of interest. Is Quentin as nasty to posters on those other forums he appears to frequent as he is to people here? Is he always as negative?
If he is then it explains a lot.0 -
Hi
I've been away from the UW post for a while but couldn't resist a peek! I see the same old arguments are still going on!
Now i don't know if i'm just being stupid but i can't see people's problem with UW. I don't recall ever seeing a UW distributor saying to anyone on here that UW is the best and cheapest and you must sign up now! (Maybe i'm wrong about that, but i ain't trawling through all 200+ pages!!) I see the UW distributors telling people to do their own research and make their own mind up. I do see UW distributors telling people about the benefits, but whats wrong with that? Of course there have been spammers, but surely UW aren't the only company that have had spammers on this forum? The anti UW are starting to sound like a broken record - sorry! If i see the Cashback Card being called 'risky' one more time i may scream!! Also i'm getting slightly fed up of the links to UW training sessions, i couldn't really give a hoot what goes on as longs as its legal and saving me money, and most importantly i'm happy with the service i receive. Surely all cards (credit/debit/other cashback cards) carry some element of risk? I wonder how many people out there have lost money using the UW card through no fault of their own? Not many i bet!
I can undertand that UW is not the best deal for everybody, but surely if you already shop at Sainsbury's and fuel up there it must make sense to have a look at UW? If you don't shop at Sainsbury's fair enough, nobody's saying you shoud change your shopping habits, but if you do then the UW is worth a look.
This site is about moneysaving and if people are getting negative bills due to money they would be spending anyway, i don't know how people can say it isn't a good deal!
I am a happy UW customer!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
