  • Has anyone ever discussed the issue of Clawback on here and how this, as well as the pressure directly from HQ, would dissuade a distributor from mis-representing?

Let me explain. A customer is going to realise fairly quickly whether they have been mis-sold. Given that they are free to move away at any time, its fair to assume they will. At UW if a customer cancels a service within 90 days of it going 'live' then any payment made to the distributor is taken back from them...meaning time and money have been spent by them to achieve nothing. Surely this is of some value to the anti-UW types in supporting the credibility of the company?

Why do you say a customer is quickly going to realise they have been mis-sold? I would suggest that the majority of your prospects are people who have never bothered to do their own research to find out who is cheapest for them, or else they wouldn't be interested in UW in the first place; even the UW salesmen on here have admitted that they're not the cheapest.

If the new customers are unaware enough of how the modern energy market works (and frankly, who can blame them?) to have fallen for the UW line without doing their own research, then they will presumably carry on in their state of blissful ignorance. And human nature being what it is, they will probably think that compared to their previous deal, UW has saved them some money, and start to get drawn in to the UW World Of Mirrors...

    Ring any bells Keggs? ;)

They were paying £34.00 per month to BT for line rental and calls and £23 to Virgin for Broadband on top - and had been doing so for 4 years...fixed them up with BroadCall at £19.99.

That is a typical post from a UW rep!

Stupid prices 'apparently' paid by an idiot! used as an example to give a £27 a month saving.

No mention of how much extra UW gas and electricity prices would cost them in your example.

    £34 a month for phones?

    I pay £31.73 a month(including VAT) to BT for:

    line rental,

    all geographic calls free 24/7,

200 free texts a month, Sent from phone or PC

Wireless Broadband hub with 20gb monthly,

free McAfee comprehensive security package, - firewall, anti-virus etc

    call minder,

    caller display

    Free 0870/0845 telephone Nos

    5gb digital vault

a second(internet) phone line with a separate telephone number(calls to many countries abroad 1.25p/min and evening/weekend domestic calls free),

350 minutes a month free internet access on BT Openzone for a laptop(for all my family).

The ability to interrogate BT call minder from abroad.

    Freephone help line.

In addition I get the occasional discounts like reduced rental for 3 months etc.

I would estimate the cost for the BT package from UW at around £45.

Plus of course I save £796 per year) on UW gas and electricity prices by being with BG.

    LOL!

As you might say, details please.

Firstly, you accuse UW reps of being economical with the truth but don't explain why you pay £31.73 and not £37 for your package. Hypocritical much?

How much extra for BT's international option?
Can you get a no min. term contract with the option to pay just £50 to scarper?
How much for 20gb per month more download allowance?
Can you opt JUST to speak to the UK call centre at all times?

    etc etc.

PS Does the BT browser now work with Vista, BTW?

At UW if a customer cancels a service within 90 days of it going 'live' then any payment made to the distributor is taken back from them...meaning time and money have been spent by them to achieve nothing.

Those uw reps doing their selling via youtube don't have too much to lose should the customers they have duped find out and leave.

Count how many lies about the deal this rep tells in his presentation (and why hasn't the uw dealt with these lies?):

    eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpB0rbgWWSc&NR=1

Note the downright lies, and the conspicuous lack of mention of having to join a club and pay a monthly fee for that on top of everything else.

    Lies include:

    1) We guarantee you will pay less than BG and your local electricity supplier

    2) Other companies may seem cheaper, that's because what they do is give you a good offer for 6/12 months but tie you in to a 3 year deal which is very expensive for the remaining 2 years.

    3) No minimum contract for energy (in fact in their ts + cs they insist on 28 days written notice if you want to leave)

    4) If you cancel your broadband within 12 months you must pay £50 for the router - in fact you must return the router whenever you cancel, and pay £50 as well if you cancel within 12 months.

    5) BT line rental is around £4 more than uw charge.

Additionally the Which report is used (against which's rules) to show uw as the "best buy", and following on from the great gary's video with the gullible spanish teachers telling us the monthly billing system is the only one in Europe, this guy goes further, and tells us it's the only company in the world able to produce a single bill each month!

Cardew, you may have the 'package' that is right for YOU and your circumstances.

This is not the right 'package' for everyone else as they have different types of spending habits/requirements etc.

My new customer tonight spends £200 per week regularly at Sainsburys and more at other stores partnered with UW Cashback card. Their incumbent energy/telecoms suppliers were more expensive than UW anyway. So, it's a winner for them, which is great!

Therefore, UW offers them a greater saving, overall. They showed me their rates, I showed them mine and they compared, (together with the standing charge and the discount club fee) made their own minds up with categorically, no input from me. They also have me at the end of a 'phone for any queries or questions they may have. I will sort any queries they have and come back to them.

ALL my customers save money compared to their current suppliers. Some have the cashback card, some don't. If I can't make savings, I tell 'em.

What's your problem? Is it because some people don't take your advice and you don't like that because you think you're always right?

£200 a week, crikey. Approx £40 a month net discount off the bill. Nice one. And to think some on here were querying why we spend £500 a month, LOL.

Mind you, I don't think fun comes onto certain peoples' radars. Too busy being misbo about things they can't control! ;)

  • I know how to get the best value from UW.

get the family together, the person with the lowest energy bills joins, then the whole family including cousins etc, all use the discount card. Everyone else just go online for the best tariffs.

Yes, maybe the best way to rid the thread of some of the more boring detractors is to have theme nights like the book club the other night, lol. Couldn't see them for dust that night, lol. 'Fun' to them would appear to be akin to showing the cross to Dracula.
