The irony? Well, a comparison site compares electricity and gas tariffs, including discounts.
cool, which comparison site includes the £14-£33 i've had knocked off my bill each month by using the cashback card? Not some possible unspecified future discount that could well be zero.
such as DD/Online billing discounts that don't apply if you stay with the company less than 12 months?Nor do these sites include inclusive call packages, as only you can explain what this has to do with energy prices?
some companies give a discount on energy for taking more than one service (ie duel fuel discounts). UW gives free inclusive calls packages instead. The overriding fact which you choose to ignore is that UW supply expensive energy, now its a free market, they can charge what they like. But please dont insult our intelligence by claiming otherwise.
The overriding fact which you choose to ignore is that for people in the right circumstances who are willing and able to take advantage of the additional benefits of UW membership can pay less to UW than with any other supplier.
we can do this back and forth all day (week/month/decade).
Or, we can agree that for some people UW is a fantastic option, for some people it's a pretty poo option and for some people it's somewhere in between.
For the first kind, I'm happy to recomend UW. For the second, I'd recomend avoiding UW and for the third I'd explain the services and wait for their own decision.
Now, regardles of the nit picking, point scoring and the inevitable out of context quoting of 'it's a poo option', can you honestly say there is anything fundementaly wrong with my opinion of UW?

Who would I rather believe? A UW distributor, or energyhelpline?
Neither. Don't jump to any conclusions or allowed yourself to be misguided with false assumptions.
read the terms of conditions of npowers sign online tarifs, check the prices on your comparison site of choice and you can determine the truthfulness of Carmine's assertion for yourself.

Just out of interest, are we here to have a reasoned debate regarding UW, or score points off each other?
I know i've done a bit myself, but lets be honest. It's getting a bit old.

I've been a customer of the Big 6 at some stage, I haven't been a customer of UW yet (you never know, it might all go Pete Tong and i will most definitely post about it on here). Dislike about UW? As a current outsider, I personally would like the membership fee scrapping. I'm sure some of their distributors are over-zealous as well (not new in this discredited industry). Can't comment on their service yet, as I said. We'll see. If you know owt about my views on the energy industry you would realise that I would welcome the industry being re-nationalised. They could do it tomorrow for me. In the meantime, I will try and get the very best deal I can as i don't live in a cave and need heat and light. At the moment that is most definitely with UW. If that changes in the future I will be off. I have no loyalty to any company. I just weigh up which is the best deal for me. That won't change.Call me Carmine....

In reply to who to believe, energyhelpline or a uw rep, uw rep Decado repliesNeither
Much of this thread is about not believing what you are told by a uw rep, and now one agrees, and happily (or ironically) posts it!
We do know that uw reps aren't to be trusted, and are taught deceitful methods, and this includes dissing the comparison/switching sites.
We can see the gullible spanish teachers being told how corrupt the comparison sites are by the ex policeman rep:
http://www.networkerplus.co.uk/videos/signing-customers.html
Fast forward to 3 mins 10 secs if you don't want to listen to his preamble about how marvellous uw is.
Of course they need to try and remove any credibility from the comparison sites as any prospect with any sense will have compared their options with a site only to discover the uw coming so far down the list.0 -

Although various tariffs are only available to new customers for a limited time, those who sign up to them remain on them, so a yearly estimate is perfectly accurate.
In an industry that has seen around 2 price changes a year for the last few, any annual estimate (apart from a fixed price) will have been wrong, and that will go for UW's 3 variable tariffs as much as any other suppliers variable tariffs.
I still find it amusing that such a relatively small player in the energy market can cause such passioante outbursts.0 -

1) I accept what you are saying but BGs online tariffs took on a more 'sinister' tone with the introduction of Websaver 2 (and subsequently Websaver 3 - how long did Websaver 2 last for??) and the exit fee. This is not some fixed/capped tariff, remember, this can increase (or, of course, decrease) as much as BG wishes it to. The exit fee effectively precludes people from switching to a future cheaper tariff. That, to me, is anti-competitive, especially like as I said this is NOT a fixed/capped tariff.
2) Agreed. But exit fees have traditionally been applied on fixed deals, not variable tariffs. Exit fees on variable tariffs are IMO dodgy. There are of course no exit fees on any UW domestic fuel product. If a punter doesn't think the price is matching up to what he was shown on the switching site etc he can be off for nowt. They must be confident they can deliver a good service, one would assume?
3) Oh, I agree.Call me Carmine....

The websavers (I think 1 was the same) have an exit fee and are variable, but they have been set up as 'tracker type' - guarenteed to be a certain % cheaper than the standard tariffs for their duration. Off the top of my head I can't think of the difference between 2 & 3, but I think 1 was a 10% discount and 2 a 6% discount.
Obviously, this is something you need to take into account if you sign up for one, in the same way you would with Atlantic & npowers annual discount, or the nitty gritty of UW's TVG.
For all us staff it would be easier if there were fewer tariffs (maybe online tracker, standard, social - although this would still give around 84 due to pricing regions).0 -
The reason why most of us dislike UW is the antics of people like yourself who post misleading rubbish implying UW prices are cheap, when it is an indisputable fact that they are amongst the most expensive in UK.
Without a counter view being expressed on this forum that rubbish might be believed by even more people than your gullible customers.
P.S.
Please spare us the outraged and indignant response.
Try to keep any reply to the specifics of UW prices. Give me any combination of UW gas and electricity consumption and we will give you a cheaper alternative, and you can then give the good news to all your customers.
I'm not outraged or indignant. Rather, your response in red with numerous question marks rather suggests that you yourself are the outraged and indignant one.
I repeat, ALL of my customers are saving money with UW compared to their previous suppliers. Fact. Some have the added advantage of the Cashback card for more savings, some don't.
What you believe or don't believe is irrelevant to me, I frankly don't care. Facts is facts.'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'
