I'm sure many people would say the same about BT phone/BB prices but you claim your deal is a good one. How come?

Cardew, you have fundamentally missed the point of the UW. It's a discount club, if you artificially strip out all the available discounts, then you are going to get a skewed result.

Do you deny that for people taking phone & broadband, then the upgrade to the inclusive calls package could be of benefit?

Do you deny that the cashback card can potentially generate sufficient discounts to make the overall price paid extremely competitive, potentially cheaper than any other supplier or combination of suppliers? (I’ll remind you of my parents for example, who use the cashback card and pay peanuts most months for their phone & internet, including calls, membership, card fees. Some months UW pay them).

Do you deny that the special offers and prearranged discounts available in the member benefits directory could be useful to some people?

Do you deny that the customer discount plan (ongoing %age discount on UW bills for recommending UW, which can potentially reduce the customers total bill for gas, elec, phone, internet, multiple mobiles, an NGN or two and an internet phone line, to less than a fiver) can make the UW package cheaper than any other supplier or combination of suppliers?

If you only look for negatives, then you will find negatives. The bottom line is that for many people UW can provide a combination of services and benefits that cannot be beaten.

If you get gas and electricity from any supplier, it is exactly the same gas and electricity that you receive.

Not so with a Telecommunications package. The services offered differ greatly. Without repeating my previous input, for some of the facilities I receive from BT, UW charge extra whilst others are simply not available from UW.

I am not making a defence of BT, I am well aware that many people are disatisfied with the service they receive(particularly those on Option 1 Broadband). I stay with BT because for myself it is a good value package and, as stated previously IMO much better than UW offer - but I might think differently about BT if I had loads of problems.

However this is the gas and electricty forum and I repeat that UW gas and electricity prices are just about the most expensive in UK - would you not agree?

    .

I suspect you do not appreciate the irony of that statement!!

The completely discredited TVG(Triple Value Guarantee for new readers!!) apart from only claiming to(sometimes) beat the most expensive combination of gas and electricity available, does not allow and discounts from these firms to be considered in any comparison. - or UW's monthly fee to be considered.

A discount club that doesn't allow discounts from other firms to be considered!!

LOL. Would you agree that BT prices are just about the most expensive in the UK but, for you, taking into account you accept certain conditions (not least their 18 month min. contract, low monthly download allowance and the fact you apparently have to threaten to leave every 18 months in order to get a fiver knocked off your bill) that they are good value for you?

For the purposes of the TVG, the comparison doesn't include possible savings from the cashback card, cdp, benefits directory or inclusive calls package either. So what irony?

regardless of the wording on the TVG, do you deny that by taking advantage of the available benefits and discounts, it is possible for a customer to pay less with UW than with any other supplier?

The irony? Well, a comparison site compares electricity and gas tariffs, including discounts. Not some possible unspecified future discount that could well be zero. Nor do these sites include inclusive call packages, as only you can explain what this has to do with energy prices?

The overriding fact which you choose to ignore is that UW supply expensive energy, now its a free market, they can charge what they like. But please dont insult our intelligence by claiming otherwise.

The comparison sites certainly see no problem in including in their comparison figure a discount that is only paid after the punter has been on a particular tariff for at least 12 months, though. How presumptious is that? The fact that it is hidden in the small print is entirely borne out by Quentin embarrassingly missing mention of it.

They also see no problem with qoting yearly figures for the various online tariffs (knowing full well, for instance, BGs in particular are never avalaible for longer than a couple of months).

The comparison sites are there for one reason and one reason alone. To make wonga. Nowt wrong with that, of course, but lets' not get bogged down by hinting they are the good guys, eh

Who would I rather believe? A UW distributor, or energyhelpline?
