Mine is about 2-3% out too, that's after some adjustment before which it was closer to double that - over reading but I guess it would have been closer to the accuracy I have now before the remap.0

I use the fill/empty/fill method to calculate my MPG, but also note the car's reading. The car is usually about 1MPG different, but it usually evens out with the next fill.
I note the MPG every time I fill the car just for my own amusement, but I also find it useful to note if there are any changes in the MPG which may indicate a problem with the car. Last time it was a slow puncture.0 -

Old cars were lighter..... I've been considering something old as my next car for this reason.
Looking back, MPG hasn't really changed over the years, engines have gotten become more economical, but cars have gotten heavier.

Of course it has. Compare the MPG of a 1.6 or 2 litre mark 4 or 5 Cortina with a modern car with a similar sized engine. When I changed a 1986 Cavalier 1.6 to a 1993 Nissan Primera 2.0 I found that the Primera, despite having a bigger engine with 35% more power than the Cavalier, was more economical."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Normal driving I get 28-29 mpg, when on full boost it drops to around 12 mpg. I can live with that as I do less than 6k a year and can claim back 45p a mile for work purposes.
Now cigs have gone up in the budget I have calculated that if I give up smoking I can justify getting a tvr cerbera insteadalthough the mpg on one of those will be on the low side.

My Mk1 MR2 now has an engine made in 2004 in it (RX300 3.0 V6).
Next project I think will be something like a VVTLi Celica 190 engine in a 1974 Celica.:cool:0
