The extra urban figure for your car is 48.7 so either your trip computer is wildly optimistic or your average speed for your journeys is well below the 39mph average speed used in the extra urban test.

That one I can’t vouch for, however there’s literally nothing other than myself, a can of coke, 2 childseats and occasionally a videocamera in my car on a general basis.

At an average speed of 43mph this morning, it hit 47.1, and that was after a 90mph M11 trek. The car’s only 7 months old, so I don’t know if it’s the computer, the car or a combination of both.

I'd be happy with mid 40's.
1.8 petrol, short stop start from cold, overloaded, if I get high 20's I'm happy.

Thanks for the response CK. While trip computers are a nice idea they do seem to vary considerably and I find they are useful as a guide and nothing more. The best way to measure your consumption accurately is by the brim to brim method and to log the details somewhere like www.fuelly.com or www.spiritmonitor.de . You can see the figures from other drivers who drive the same model of car there as well.

26.3 mpg - all town driving and short journeys (no more than 4 miles)

Just been down to Tesco and they were quite busy. I brimmed the tank for £71 which should last me a good 5-6 weeks.

All entered and stored on the excellent http://www.fuelly.com/

Worst 1991 Camaro at its worst I was getting 8mpg in winter around 14 in summer, even a long motorway run would only just see it in low 20,s

Best Passat TDI 140 (2008 model)
work & back between 28 mpg and 42 mpg depending on traffic
Bradford to Blackpool 58.6 there, 62.4 return (less traffic) not done a longer run yet as only had it 4 weeks but computer is very close to actual over a full tank

Volvo S80 T6 2.9twin turbo, with a remap. 14.5mpg in town, and im lucky to see 30mpg on a run, with average motorway speeds (cough) it generally returns 25ish.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

Do you drive at 56mph everywhere or something?

Forgot to add that mine is a 2010 model.

Should probably add my other car too. 1993 Nissan Cefiro 2.0 SE-4 (4wd auto turbo 6cyl petrol) - 22mpg regardless of how I drive it.

Needless to say I drive the Mondeo most of the time :)

Worst I had was an SD1 that gave 14mpg, but that was just under 130mph. That worked out to about 1 litre of fuel a minute and a half.

    Wanted a 4WD Skyline.

Didn't want to pay Skyline rates for insurance (At the time £400 to insure me on the Cef, £1200 for an R32 Skyline GTS-4 which is basically the same car)

Didn't want the attention from chavs, thieves and the police.

More here rather than me bore everyone who came here looking for fuel saving tips!
