Yes please Jumblejack! I was just about to ask for the recipe myself! And does anyone have a vegetarian type pie like this? My DH can't eat meat but would feel left out if me and DS were tucking into this.

BTW - I had a NSD! Just glad I decided to bring the chocolate. It's hand in day and the students are a little bit stressed...

The bases usually end up neither crisp nor soggy but a happy in between. Kind of like egg custard pastry at the base.

The apple pies were lush. Kids wanted seconds but I am saving the other half for put tomorrow.

I have just cut the pork n apple pie crust away at one side to take a peek (and I also benefitted form chef's privilege :)) and it was mmmmmm.

It would go so nice with some pickle, relish or some such side offering. Will use this one as a buffet dish if I get more reduced sausage meat. Well chuffed with it :)

Where did you get the cheap Bramley apples? That sausage pie looks SO good - is there a pastry bottom?.

There is a pastry bottom but I usually roll the pastry thinly as I use a half fat to flour ratio.

Mummyof5, I just used 2 packs of Tesco finest sausage meat (around 375g per pack). I grated 2 apples into the meat and added more mixed herbs and a LOT of black pepper.

The pastry was just one part fat, 2 parts flour and enough water to form into a ball :)

Thanks for the compliment. It was just an experiment inspired by florenceems tea!!! :)

  • NickJW - I don't know if you buy Lindt chocolate regularly but if you do then Mr A sell it for £1.49 (not that I buy it regularly myself or anything :D).

Will be definitely freezing chillis from now on after the tips on this thread. Does anyone know where you can get cheap coconut milk as that's one thing that stops me from doing my own thai food?

My week's spend is £89.51 so over budget again :o. For month now at £267.75/£320. It's really gone to pot this month what with Easter hols. Still I do have lots of food in (but more coming tonight from Mr A ) but perhaps from next month I will make up for it and live off what we have except fresh stuff :). This is the plan anyway and I'm going to steal someone's idea on this thread and make a note of everything in freezer and use that.

I'm loving the look of all the pies and have noted down the various pastry recipes. I've never made pastry before (just bought it) so I think I'll give this a go and do some of these yummy pies :).

    The pie looks fantastic,
I make a vegetarian sausage pie at Christmas, cant say its as good as this but I just use a packet of sos mix or the packet of vege sausage meat mix from Asda. Add onions and other bits and its just like the meat version.
    http://groceries.asda.com/asda-estore/search/searchcontainer.jsp?trailSize=1&searchString=meat+free+sausage+mix&domainName=Products&headerVersion=v1&_requestid=62453

Also delia does a good vege pork pie mix but it is a lot of fuss and does not have the additives the packet mix has.

    Hi all

Just checking in to let you know that I undertook a big public service on behalf of you all today:j:j:j...... I did a market testing on Ald* mini chocolate eggs (the tiny sugar coated ones that imitate codberries) They jumped into my basket at the checkout shouting "I'm reduced to 19p please look after me" :o:o:o

Cant say I recommend them but I may have to have a repeat trip to make sure the rest of the shelf goes to a good home.....:D

(I was going to make the pack last and just have one a day as a treat but when I got home I found I'd emptied the packet:eek::eek:

    Have updated the total!

For every 100g of flour, half the amount of fat-50g

Any fat will do. I used utterly butterly but you could use any spread/butter really. If you reserve your cooking fat from joints, etc, this can be used too.
