  • What do you think of the "plasticky" lid? Someone on another thread didnt like the lid but I probably won't worry about it but any thought appreciated!;)
Ive just redone my main food cupboard to try to have some method! I bought some extra plastic baskets for all of the sauce mixes and curries-thanks AP Foods I've gone a bit mad!
Going to make green thai curry today but have no coconut milk so it will have to be evap milk or cream! Divided up nearly 3 kilos of green thai paste from the big tin a wlile back from AF put in 400g portions in the freezer. Also divided up 2 tins of tomato puree into 200g portions and froze that.:j
So Ive now got a bit more room for the other stuff in the cupboard.
going to make sausage cassserole also today using some of my packet sauces. Thought Id do something cheaper than a roast dinner and have a change. I was going to make pizzas or bread but we have loads of bread so thought Id do the curry.
Ive got out a huge tin of grapefruit. Has anyone ever frozen tinned grapefruit? I think it would be fine but if youve done it please let me know.;)

Update: Made the curry with evaporated milk and its lovely! I think its actually better than with coconut milk-not a great fan of that anyway! So-lower in fat, lower in cholesterol and cheaper!

I haven't had any issues with the lid. If you get one with a seed and nut tray you have to place seeds and nuts in delicately so it doesn't open straight away but no complaints from me. Hth.

Happy birthday Nick! And also to Florenceem's dd. April is obviously a good month for birthdays! ;)

Spent about £3 today, got 3 bags of bread flour, some fine cornmeal and a pudding, as I was going out to a friend's for lunch (roast pork, mmm!)

Aiming for a fiscal fast until Friday of this week, when we are having McD as a treat. Mainly, I have to say, for dd, as we finish swimming lessons at half five, and I have to drop her off at the theatre at half six. In that hour, we have to change (20mins), get back to town (20mins) and eat!! Hmm, I like a challenge!

    PG x

ps - See you over in May!
Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100

Thank you all for the well wishes! I'm suitably full now and a 'little' bit tipsy! :D Having a relax and early night though because I hate starting Monday on a bad note - it ruins the whole week.

NSD for me yesterday and today:j DH bought me an early birthday present -a Ken*ood Ch*f. I am so thrilled I can't believe it. Have been baking all weekend, fruit Cake, Devils Food Cake, Victoria Sponge, Pizza's, Walnut & Cheddar Loaf, Soda Bread and some Croissants (but they went wrong:o) and Chicken Pies.

I think this is going to save me loads in the long run, because everything is getting so expensive.

I have updated my siggy (still over where I should be) but will keep trying:D

    Hope everyone is going well!

End of my 1st GC month - finished at £263.99 for April and 14 NSD's :T

Had a piece of JJ's herby cheesey bread for breakfast (very filling indeed).

    Yogurt for lunch.

YS/whoopsied Sainsbug mince in Spag Bol for tea.

I have only had DR minced steak for the last couple of months, so not looking forward to having normal mince, but it needs to be used, been in the freezer for months! :rotfl:

Thanks to all the April contributors, I have learnt loads from you all :D

Off to May GC now ;)

    Hi everyone,

Final day of my April GC. I am over budget by about £50 - can't say exactly as I stopped counting :o

I've worked out that I use about £35 of my budget paying back my 2nd purse each week for items used. I'm fine with that, but need to keep a rein on the other items I'm buying from the SMs.

Unlike most of you on here, I don't have a freezer bulging with food - the freezer in my kitchen (upright larder) is probably 3/4 full, and the undercounter one in the garage is empty. I know it would make sense to have a blow-out and really stock up on meat etc. but I think I'd cry at the amount this would cost

Anyway, enough waffling! See you all on the May GC thread.
