Cancelling a sold item

I'm a newbie to selling on ebay, but I listed an item for sale stating local pick up only (no postage)
The item sold and I promptly received an email asking for delivery costs - to which I replied pointing out that the listing stated local pick up only and I wasn't going to post.
TBH I think the buyer was just a bit thick and hadn't read the listing properly. We agreed to cancel the sale, but I have no idea what to do in ebay to clear it. I'm not too bothered if I'm not refunded my listing fees as they were the minimum possible.
How do I do it ?

You can't cancel an auction once it has finished. You can however get your FVFs back by either going through the Non paying bidder process which puts a strike on the buyers account, or by filing for a mutual FVF.
Personally I would file for NPB as it isn't your fault that the buyer can't read, however if you want to be more reasonable then just file for a mutual cancellation.
Either way the buyer can leave you feedback so I would strongly suggest checking what feedback he has left in the past. He might just be the type who always leaves neutrals for instance if he feels hard done by.

I've changed my mind - they've just neg ed me saying that I never got back to them on postage details - I replied as soon as I checked my mail that evening - I'm FURIOUS !!!!!0

Ok, In that case start NPB against them as soon as you can which is 7 days after end of auction. The NPB strike they will get is more dangerous to them than the neg you should leave. Once they have three strikes they will lose their account and that isn't something any user of ebay wants hanging over them. These strikes never go away, so in a few years time if they muck someone around again they could lose their account regardless of any feedback they have built up.
Leave a neg as well whenever you feel like it, make sure you use the neg creatively to reflect as badly on them as you can, keep it clean and factual.
If you currently have very low feedback it might also be worth considering dumping the account and starting again. If this neg means your feedback drops below 97-98% you may have problems as a seller in future.

i would also suggest thinking about starting again if your feedback is quite low after this (i noticed you said you were new to selling - but you might have built up quite a bit buying)0

Thanks both of you - I'm thinking along the same lines regarding a new account - I've got 18 +ve feedback which has taken me a year to get - it is very frustrating to think I might be better off starting again.
The 7 days before I can start NPB isn't up til Sunday (again frustratingly !), but I'm already thinking of what feedback I intend leaving them in due course !0 -
You could always ask them to go through mutual feedback removalI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Why don't you set up another account, keep that one open just for now and with the other one buy a loada items for little money e.g. 99p etc....obviously things you may want or could sell again! that way you could build your feedback up and have the other account just in case!?

And if you relist your item make sure you block them as a bidder. Any negatives I get I block...just in case they try to get cute...0
