ok people I'm off to Lanzarote for a week of beach. see you when I get back - be good!

    Enjoy sarah!

I'm curious about the fact that having your SF veg in bolognese, chilli, curry etc. doesn't seem to 'count' any longer. I hate to say 'it worked for me' but it did!!
  • Hi Stef and welcome. I've heard some people say that you should eat all of your syns because by not eating them it can stall the weight loss. That doesn't make sense to me to be honest and I have to say that I don't usually eat more than about 6-10 during the week but then have more at the weekend to make up for it.

As for slow losses, I personally have stopped weighing every week because I wasn't losing and have made myself accept that I will only lose about 2lb a month in total. It's made me look at this as a way of life more than being on a diet. I try and think that even at that rate I should lose 24 lbs in a year which is better than nothing. I certainly didn't get to where I am now overnight and I have to accept that it's going to take me a long time to get back to where I want to be.

    Good luck.

    Thanks MM.

Im finding that i struggle to eat the right amounts because for years i only really ate the evening meal as hunger never set in till then which is exactly what my mom did, but then i met my hubby and he enjoys snacking with the tv on in the evening so in started creaping the odd choc bar or crisps - pringles are the worst but i werent eating them cos i were hungry. So now going up to 3 meals a day with snacks or making syns up to even 5/6 is a struggle. The milky way around 8pm is more a case of i need to eat it to have syns otherwise im not doing this right.

I try not to put syns in meals or keep them low so as not to deprive my DS of treats when he wants something although he is a lot stronger than i initially thought and really has his head focused on this now.

Todays meal plan is looking like this -

b - egg, beans on toast. Banana.
l - chicken noodle soup - from the extra easy cook book.
t - pork loin steaks, 'roasted' veg and new pots.
Have defrosted some aldi's forest fruits and having about 1/4 of a tub with a muller light.
    Does that sound ok?

Will be interesting to see what the verdict is on the syns in a latte drink. Do keep us posted.

Thanks for your posts. Yes we did go out and I'm really glad we did because we had a lovely day. Food choices weren't great however. Unfortunately this week is turning into one of those weeks where there is lots on and under normal circumstances, it wouldn't be a problem - I would be extra good next week to compensate any gain but with my holiday weight hanging around, it just feels a bit disheartening and I'm dreading weigh in on Tuesday. But what will be will be and its what I do about it next that's important.

    welcome

If its only a little amount that you want to lose then sadly its going to be very slow and steady. Agree with other posters - grab a notebook and record everything you eat and drink in a day then share it on here. :j We can then have a nose and give you any pointers.

I agree it seems strange to include extra SF in a meal and then serve more SF on the side as well but I suppose it all helps albeit a bit of a faff. I tend to add extra SF to a meal but don't always serve it on the side. It does get expensive buying all the extra fruit and veg.

Our consultant tells us to enjoy at least 5 syns a day. I suppose so the plan doesn't get boring . When I joined, we were allowed 15 syns - now we are told to enjoy no more than 10 (buffer of 5 I guess for errors/miscounts)

Thanks CH, i'm in a world of hurt at the minute, honestly. :o

I remember reading somewhere about syns - if you cut out syns, you feel more deprived so you eat more free food than you normally would to satisfy your lust for sweets/crisps.wine what ever. It sets the balance of food off and inadvertently makes you eat more if that makes sense. Im was in one of the magazines.

My syn limit seems to be 66 per week - i would love to get away with 105 but it's not to be!!! In the same way i can't have green days - i maintain or gain. They just don't work for me. if i have a non meat EE day ( I live with a veggie), i just treat it as normal and don't adjust my HEs. On a side note, my consultant always says you should really only have one HEA on green or red. I know loads of people get away with two, so happy days :) Extra cheese is always good!!! I have one green day a week so i can have an extra cereal bar

Out of curiousity, does anyone eat cathedral lighter city cheddar as their HEA? The book suggests it would be 45g, but the website online area says only 40g is an HEA. If you ate 45 every day, that's an extra 7 syns a week almost - that you didn't know you were eating!!!

Flat Eric - just take what the scales say. Weeks like this happen and this is for life so just keep chugging along. I had a 3lb gain for one night off (wine lasagne and garlic bread and a tiny bit of ice cream). Two weigh ins later and i still havent lost that 3lb - but it was my consultant reminded me its for life and this is just how life goes sometimes. You're making a great concerted effort

Have you got a breakfast plan yet? Every day when i come home from work, i dont even sit down until the next days breakfast and lunch is sorted. I chop all my tubs of fruit, set out my fruit bowl stuff to lift, maybe batch cook up some bacon, grab lunch out of the fridge or freezer ( i batch cook lunches - lentil dahl and rice, soup, pastas, couscous salads etc) and put it all together in the fridge side by side. My yoghurts are there, my cutlery is b eside my fruit bowl stuff so in the morning, all i do is throw it in a bag. Sometimes i have beans and egg for breakfast so the beans will be in a tub ready to ding, and the frying pan sitting out ready to be used. SO i crack the egg, feed the cats, ding the beans and pop the toast and leave approximately 8 mins to eat brekkie.

I really really struggle with getting up in the mornings because of the night time medication i take, but i force myself to get up and give myself enough time for breakfast no matter what. I always keep some cooked bacon in the fridge so if the morning doesnt go to plan, i can grab a bacon sarnie.

not to say any of this will work for you - it's just to show you how one person does it. It's hard work, it's a pain in the butt but hey, this is how life goes. I much prefer eating this way rather than sausage rolls and convenience carp for breakfast.:o

I hope you find your mojo - at least on tuesday you can have real expectations as you know what your choices were. Are you back on track ok today?

Sorry , rambling but i really just wish i could help you!!!!!

Today - copious amount of tea (HEA milk) , dippy egg and toast with butter syns, lunch is lentil broth from the soup book and dinner is champ (mashed potato with spring onion) and maybe linda mccartney red onion rosemary sausages (if im able to eat them), mashed carrots and gravy syns./ Yog and strawbs, melon and grapefruit

I can also have my crisps and choc tonight as i wasnt able to manage them last night.

  • Zippy I totally agree with you - each person has to find what works for them and their system and just because SW says you can eat all you want of X, Y and Z doesn't mean it's necessarily so for everyone.

I've come to the realisation that I have to cut out pasta because I feel it's just doing me no good and I'm not digesting it properly. It leaves me feeling bloated.

I suppose you can compare it to drinking - some people can drink a lot of wine and it'll have very little effect on them; others will drink a glass and be smashed!

Thats true. The week i had my 3lb gain i had pasta every day which wasn't normal so i've had to cut it out. Yep - find out what works for you.
