    • Mobile account is not a bank current account and cannot work with anything like a DD.
    • It is Orange who is billing, not the company.
    • Orange can only charge for some services, like, say, premium texts received from some company, and then share the loot with the sender.

Bottom line is that Orange are the ones billing you, so they need to be able to tell you what you're being charged for.

'Application - content' on your bill is nothing to do with an app that has been installed on your phone.

It's down to a premium rate SMS service that can affect any type of phone, it is not 'something Android phones are known for'.

Just to shut 'thegoodman' up, here is someone with an iPhone who is being billed for the same thing: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3696895

Basic lack of understanding right there, Android isnt a phone, its an operating system.

I got a new laptop the other day, its a "Windows"..;)

From what you have described, it sounds like you are probably receiving premium rate text messages. The same thing happened to me; a company was sending me unsolicited text messages every month, which I originally though was just spam, until I realised that I was being charged £1.50 for every message they sent me! I contacted my network (Three) who at first had a similar attitude to Orange and said I must have subscribed to some sort of 3rd party service and basically tried to say it was nothing to do with them, however, after informing them that I had never subscribed to any 3rd party services and as Three were the ones taking the money from my account (and keeping a share of it), it was their responsibility to let me know who was sending the chargeable text messages. In the end, they gave me the details of the sender (which I was entitled to!) and I made a complaint to PhonepayPlus, the UK regulator for premium rate phone calls and SMS, who not only got the sender of the messages to refund me, but also fined them a six figure sum as they had received the same complaints from other people (it seems the company was making a fortune from sending unsolicited messages to random numbers, and most people didn't notice/complain). So I highly recommend contacting Orange and firmly requesting the senders details (even just the company name or the number the messages were sent from is enough for PhonepayPlus to identify the sender). Good luck!

Thanks a lot for all your helpful responses.

Phoned up Orange again an hour ago and have been informed that it is a firm called MOBIVILLAGE which is responsible for the scam. Have been given a number to text STOP to. There are other posts on this forum mentioning similar problems with the same company

Now to get either Orange or Mobivillage to refund the 75 pounds that i have overpaid!

Thanks a lot again guys and gals! :T
  • well done ssharma that's a good start

Don't know if this has got anything to do with your problem but, on Watchdog tonight they were talking about 'free' app for a game which was draining the power from phones.
