I concur. A typical scenario is that Person A leaves, one or more existing employees "temporarily" take on additional duties or absorb some of Person A's duties whilst the employer seeks to replace A. Manager finds things are moving along without the need for additional labour at that time, so puts this on the back burner until / if someone complains about the high workload.

yup,and then employs someone new on part time/lesser wage
pretty standard from my and others experience

It is yes, but there is nothing positive about prospects for the unemployed at the moment, what has been said is what's happening at the moment.
  • 6.4? I just applied for a job yesterday, and there was an application pile with easy over an 100 applications, with a lot more to come what planet are these people on.

Does this stat include zero hour contracts & commission only roles etc?

I'm getting alot more applications per vacancy during the last 9 months or so.

As a rough guess around 40+, this is not a basic min wage role either & previous experience is a must.

It was 6.4 unemployed people for every job, as has been said before employed people will apply for jobs as well.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
