    No worries

The meter reading from when we changed over was 3232 this date was 31/03/11 which is the actual meter reading we gave and for the other date 13/04/11 we never had a meter reading

the meter reading now is 4354.6 present day today

    09/03/12 - 11/03/12 - total 189 - daily average 63
    28/10/12 - 08/03/12 - total 9052 - daily average 143
    14/04/11 - 27/10/11 - total 4076 - daily average 21
    31/03/11 - 13/04/11 - total 11247 - daily average 803

the ones in red are for the months 31 March to 27 October which in total is 15,323 kwh

Add the other months in total is 25,564 from 31 march 2011 - 11 march 2012.

Below I have worked out the total units we have used from then til now

Now if you work out how many units we have used from the actual reading 3232 31st march and work it out how many units we have used to the present day 4354.6 is 1,122 converted to kwh is in total for the year is 36,079 kwh

    Hope this helps:rotfl:

These are very reliable meters. So reliable there is no mandatory scheduled removal (unless suspected in error).

Given the results of your 6min burn test I would say the meter is not currently grossly in error. Possibly your consumption is a little above average, no cavity and all that. There is some wierd reason for a historic rogue reading or bill treatment which has skewed your monthly billing but not consumption going forward. The answer will probably be on a missing bill.:D

I suggest you check readings weekly for a month, then monthly as next winter approaches. Think about whether your roomstat is set too high.

Room temp was only ever on no more than 20 degrees

I agree, the only way to solve this is monitor every day with every week and month.

I was going to one day, when it is a bit colder, just set my heating from 6 in the morning til 10 at night set on 20 degrees and see how many units I use in that amount of time

Then I will work that out to each day, when possibly it was the winter months, just to see whether we are just using to much heat, the reason being? that all I can see is..... the house being single brick ???

There is really no other explanation.

It must be just one cold house !!

Even though they are all brand new radiators and the house has been totally gutted from head to toe, replastered painted etc etc etc

If you done all that other work, then why not get the loft insulation up to current standards?
It's cheap as chips (or free) and the biggest single contribution to saving energy you can do.

Thanks for that, but I'm still a bit confused!
How did they generate a bill for 14/4/11 without a reading, even an estimated one?
You need to get as many historic readings as you can.
Given that you used 9052kWh from last November to February inclusive (28/10/11 to 8/3/12), your total annual usage is going to be a lot less than double that, as it pretty much covers winter.
My own usage for those dates accounted for 67% of my annual usage from 8/3/11 to 8/3/12, that's with gas hot water, heating and hob. Using that same split, your annual usage would be more like 13,600kWh.

You maybe don't want to hear this and yes its wise after the event, but instead of re-plastering, the walls could have been drylined with insulating plasterboard.

if your gas meter is outside, have you ruled out any leaks, they are not at all uncommon, small leaks from unions, anaconda and regulator venting outside can easily be missed

The volume of gas being discussed is not small.

A large leak remaining undetected is even less likely than gross meter error.

I cannot believe a meter reader does not understand that.

And anyway the anaconda and regulator are before the meter. Duh.
