    Thank you for your help,

31st March last year the exact meter reading from when we actually moved from Npower to Scottish Power was 3232, it is now 4350, this means we have used in total 1,118 units, which is 35,951 kwh.

    CRAZY !! lol
I would say that the reading of 3232 was incorrect, because as jalexa stated in the first 14 days of your billing period you used 11247 kwh, this is almost a years usage for some people and virtually impossible in 14 days (especially as it was April and last year we had a very hot April).

Who took the reading and is it the same as the closing reading on your final Npower bill?

If it is the same as the closing Npower reading you should have had a very low final bill from Npower.

I would say its crazy. It's a lot for a 2 bedroom house unless you have the room temperature set impossibly high. Meter error is not impossible but is extremely rare. I suggest you still try to eliminate other explanations first. For elimination do you have a dial meter? They can be difficult to read correctly.

What temperature is your heating set to? Do you have a combi boiler? If so you can do an approximate consumption check by checking the meter before and after filling the bath and recording the time to fill the bath.

I'm still puzzled at the "impossible" 803 daily average. Something has "gone wrong" at that time. You need to find an explanation for that.

We have a meter which measures in ft3 which is an imperial meter, I live in a 2 bedroom house with my partner and 2 small children.

I've been keeping a watch on the gas meter the last 2 days and we have been using 2 units per day, which is 64 kwh a day, we use hot water for gas and have central heating on for 4hrs a day.

Is this a lot, can anybody help???

We have been paying up to £240 a month for gas and electric.... which I think is ridiculous!!

Are you sure you have your sums right..?

1 cubic foot of natural gas has a calorific value of roughly 1034 Btu which equals 0.31 Kw
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The OP is right in that 2 Hundred Cubic Feet of gas (which is what imperial meters use as units) is about 63 - 64kWh.

The sums are correct, I have spoken to them today, they are dropping it to £150 a month until it is being investigated, it was £179 but went up to £240 with us still owing £400.

Ok.... to me it looks like they have averaged the 2wks between march and april for the months april to october, because it shows only n/a. So... I think they have averaged the 11247 for all those months that they have not had a reading for, the easiest way for them to wrk it out was to work on an average, so really it covers not only for the two wks but for all the 7 months that says n/a, that is only the solution I can come up with, so if you do had all the total in months it still adds to a ridiculous amount.

    Hope this makes sense?

Also I have a condenser boiler which is an ideal, it heats up our central heating and water. The temp is set to 20 degrees but now only 18 when we do have it on, when it was on it never reached above 21.

We have 5 radiators 1 in each bedroom, one in the hall and one in our kitchen diner.

    Hope this helps.

Our previous address only cost us £70 a month and we was in credit and that was for a 3 bedroom house.

For some reason scottish power still say its correct

They seem to have taken the annual usage from March 2011 to March 2012 and have arrived at the 34,564kWh figure.
As has already been said that March 2011 starting figure looks rather suspect. How sure are you that it was correct? Do you have any earlier bills from your previous supplier that can confirm it?

We have the enclosed Npower bill confiming the end of usage, which was 3232, this is clearly stated on the Npower bill. We where the one's that had to confirm this figure to them. Then we changed to Scottish power.

You need to stand up for your customer rights here. I'll suggest again you should complain (1) that an adviser says is its "correct" yet the bill contains a totally implausable 14 day daily average of 803.

IMO your Scottish Power adviser has been incompetent, unhelpful (and by ignoring 803kWhrs/day) positively negligent. In your position I would throw the complaints book at them.

Complain strictly in accordance with the complaints procedure here...http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/support-centre/service-and-standards/complaints.aspx

Probably the Scottish Power representative will be along tomorrow to invite an online complaint submission.

I added a link to the complaint's procedure while you were posting.

And to ask again does your gas meter have round dials or easy to read numbers?
