Ignorant train passengers

I'm never rude to others, unless they are discourteous. People do listen to music on long journeys. Whats wrong with being polite?
Why should they need to ask you; it's not a favour, it's common decency.
Nothing wrong either with people listening to music; just as long as they are the only one who can enjoy it and not the rest of the carriage.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Or when people get on the quiet carriage, yet somehow think it doesn't apply to them!
The reason everybody is being quiet isn't to make it easier for you to shout into your mobile. You may also find the 'family carriage' more suitable for your 2-year olds than the quiet carriage.
I was on a train recently and a mum and her toddler were in the quiet carriage. The toddler spent her time either watching a DVD at FULL volume or shrieking and shouting. Not surprisingly several people pointed out it was the quiet carriage. The mum said, "yes, I know. I booked the quiet carriage because she will need a sleep later and I don't want anyone disturbing her"!0 -
you ignore the empty seats and sit down next to people out of principle?
when you go to the beach or park do you ignore the empty spaces and sit next to strangers?
Why doesn't it surprise me that you don't understand? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
No point in getting stressed now about it.
Must admit, I do sometimes think what you've said in your last 3 points sometimes, but its as far as it goes. Sometimes, it can make you feel better, so you can laugh it off. Works for me anyway.
I dwell on things. I fear I will now hunt her down on the train each day just to have her move her bag off the seat. I may even do the hover thing, and when she moves it I'll put MY bag on the seat and sit on her knee.
The effect this has had on my life is irreversible.0 -
Nothing wrong with being polite. Which is why I find it rude that when the train fills up you wouldn't automatically move your bag on the assumption that a person may be more worthy of a seat.

Oh but I do. If for some reason though, I have not noticed someone needs a seat, would expect someone to be polite, instead of hovering.
I dislike hearing other peoples music too.Oh well...

To be honest, if you just kept your bag off the seat in the first place then people wouldn't need to ask you to move it.0 -

To be honest, my trains usually fairly empty for a good few hours when I get on. So, has never been a problem, for a couple of hours on a long journey.Oh well...

I get this too.
The trick is to remove your bag from the seat as the train starts to fill (if it does) rather than waiting until there are only a few seats available (thus selfishly attempting to cling onto your 'double-space' at the expense of the more considerate). There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Azari
you've explained perfectly what the issue that the OP had is and what is the decent thing to do on public transport. :T0
