As I said before, I'm damn sure i ain't asking someone if i can sit down on a train seat just because their bag is on it.
I wasn't standing grinning, I smiled as I got there, and as I went to take the seat she gave the attitude. Since I have anger management issues, next time I'll throw her bag down the !!!!ing train.
maybe you should ask because in some cases the bag belongs to someone else
me and my friend were on the train going to Birmingham I had to go to the toilet so I left my bag on my seat next to my friend and went to find the toilet I came back someone had chucked my bag at my friend and taken my seat (which I had reserved by paying extra money)0 -

Another bugbear of mine : The people who don't check if there is anyone trying to get off before they try to get on the train.
The amount of people who don't even let the doors open properly before they try to storm on the train and are surprised to find me standing there in their way is amazing. I can't get off due to them and there are usually people behind me so I can't step back either.
An even more annoying, though thankfully much rarer, annoyance is people on the underground who don't get up from their seat until just before everyone else has got off.
You patiently stand back so that everyone getting off has plenty of room and then once the last one is off you start getting on only for some idiot to lurch into your path from inside the carriage.
So now you have someone hurtling towards you and a group of people directly behind you and everything grinds to a halt whilst you all make way for the !!!!!! disembarker. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Actually, I still find this very rude. IF the train is getting full and you are blocking a seat with handbag/luggage, the onus is on you to do the right thing. Also, it's not unusual for the seat hogger to have earphones plugged in.
Some passengers are too shy/polite to ask.
I'm never rude to others, unless they are discourteous. People do listen to music on long journeys. Whats wrong with being polite? As I said before, I'm damn sure i ain't asking someone if i can sit down on a train seat just because their bag is on it.

I so hope you don't do that to someone with similar issues. :eek:Oh well...

I think in the last two weeks I've had this 5 days out of 8. Not actually been knocked in to by someone trying to get on the train for a couple of weeks though so I guess I should count that as an 'improvement'!
I hate that! Grr! Same with buses too. And then some people have the cheek to get angry with you because they can't get on!
Actually had that happen to me on a bus once. As I was getting off, a load of loud-mouth school kids (probably about 11 years old) rushed onto the bus and I got quite a bashing. The bus driver got out of his seat, apologised to me and made the kids get off the bus again and wait for me to get off.0 -
Our worst time was in an old compartment type railway carriage, this guy had obviously been shopping, he's used all six seats in the compartment by plonking 5 new continental quilts on them, them and his lardy fat backside. So he effectively had the whole compartment to himself on an InterCity train.
I've never seen my old man so angry. He tore the guy off a strip, evicted him and his quilts and made the guy stand where the two carriages join together.

I think your arguing just for the sheer hell of it.
1, she shouldn't have had her bag on the seat.
2, I don't have to ask to sit down on a seat occupied by someone's bag.
3, her reaction when having to move her bag was out of order.
4, she was a silly cow.
5, she was a silly cow.
6 ,she was a silly cow.0 -
Train from Leeds to Brum yesterday, full of single passengers, and probably 3 of us had our bags on our laps. Every other double seat was a passenger accompanied by their bag next to them. We need a concerted plan whereby we ignore the polite ones and actively go for the bag-seaters and ask them to move their bags - even if there are double seats available. We're often just too polite in this country.
you ignore the empty seats and sit down next to people out of principle?
when you go to the beach or park do you ignore the empty spaces and sit next to strangers?0 -

No point in getting stressed now about it.
Must admit, I do sometimes think what you've said in your last 3 points sometimes, but its as far as it goes. Sometimes, it can make you feel better, so you can laugh it off. Works for me anyway.Oh well...
