    hi
we had buyers like this - I suggest you loook very carfully at the terms of you contract - you will find that although you may for instance have agreed to leave curtains - which ones arent specified...we for instance happened to have an old bag in the loft - with added mould spots

light fittings could infact be any old tat - the specifice ones arnt stated

door keys - other than the front door arnt in the contract...including windows and radiator keys
look around - check whats not in the contract - it dosnt have to have an intrinsic value of £400 - it just has to cost that to replace
manuals - instructions etc are a pig
oh and get your power and gas cut off - not tranferred as you leave - there is no legal obligation to tranfer

and you can quite legally point this out to him

and if that dosnt work leave with a smile remembering.....

carpet dosnt need to be those beautifully clean and fitted ones you have...they can be the filthy ones left after your movers have dragged every potted plant from your back garden through to the front....in muddy shoes on a rainy day....

he dosnt hold all the cards he just thinks he does...

ps - plumming fittings are part of the contents and cant be removed - but every single joint can be loosened..
    ;)

You are an astonishingly pathetic specimen.

Gosh. This thread has really shocked me. What awful things people are suggesting.

This is all part of buying and selling a house! It's normal to negotiate to the last moment for white goods, curtains etc etc. It is often unclear what is being left- thats why we fill in forms.

The guy asked for a washing machine and a fridge. That's it. Perfectly normal. Perfectly acceptable.

Why on earth would anyone do all of the nasty things suggested on here? It actually saddens me that people can be so vindictive.

We had the buyers from hell. I still paid to have house cleaned as we left and left champagne.

You just expect ot when you buy and sell houses. It's all part of the game.

I can hardly believe what I've read. Lowest of the low posting here with their 'suggestions'. And all for a fridge freezer - who cares! It's a down market- I hope the sale doesn't go through and the house will go down many multiples of what that fridge freezer costs.

I hope never to come to business terms with parasites like this.

    Buyers' market.

But why do people think that because it's "business" that their morals can just go out the window.
A deal was struck at the time of offer with no mention of white goods. The purchaser then waited until the last possible moment to show his hand , knowing that the vendor was a link in a chain that could break if they refused.
Now while that may be legally ok..morally?
I am not a believer in karma or anything like that but I do believe that people like that do eventually get found out for what thay are, and one day they will try their bully boy tactics on someone in a much stronger position then themselves and will end up with egg on thier face.

Whilst I would not be doing any of the awful things suggested on here and I would certainly leave the house clean for my own sense of pride, I most certainly would not be 'rewarding' buyers from hell with a bottle of champagne!!

    Exactly right.

Attempting to hold an entire chain hostage to gazundering at the last minute is morally repugnant.

Those people should be taught a very expensive lesson every time.

Only in that way will they learn that the dangers of such disgusting behaviour far outweigh any possible reward.

You should hear some of the stories I have about sellers on the way up who tried every trick in the book to get more dosh for their house. It's more about the type of person, I guess. And the repugnant obsession with property in this country.

You can still leave the card and the bottle. Just make sure you drink the wine yourselves first.

And refill the bottle. If you see what I mean. ;)

The buyer is taking the p... so you can leave him some.

Gazumping is just as morally repugnant as gazundering.

When you strike a deal, you should honour it.

Fortunately, we don't have much of a problem with either in Scotland, as the legal system here makes it very hard to do.
