The OP wants to report them because they believe a crime has been / is being committed..

The OP has made no mention of any supposed breach.
I bet you're one of the first to complain at the agencies.

I don't think so. In the places where I have lived and worked there were no agencies to report to, you get on and sort things out yourself.

Too many folk sweat the small stuff and pay no heed to the more important things in life.

The place to contact is Environmental Health at the local council. Most likely a report like this would mean a surprise inspection, and they will take action based on their findings.

    As above.

Most food premises should be down for regular timed visits anyway (i.e every year or 2 years). A complaint about the business may just bring forward the visit or a combination of complaints may lead to a surprise visit.

Oh I agree, that west coast of Scotland, civil breakdown and eveything, the whole area is simply a no-go zone for the police. As for environmental health, pah. They haven't ventured into the badlands of the west for many a day.

You, your family and your friends benefit just as much as everyone else from good citizens who report things to the correct authorities.

You only see what you want to see, you ar a very monochromatic person.
  • Its a pub and they have 2 people doing the cooking?

That means everything will be deep fried in a burgers, chips that sort of thing and sandwiches. Not really worth hassling people for really because as has been noted they dont need to have any certificates apart from passing an inspection which im sure they would already have done.

What exactly is it that you think is wrong with how they work?

Wow...I wasn't expecting so many vitriolic replies.

To those who think that I'm acting like a Stasi-type informer...thanks for that, been called a few things but that's a first. :rotfl:

To those who advised giving EH a call...thank you.

I've just given them a call and it appears that the said 'bragging but probably lying' landlord was holding back when he was chatting the other day.

The pub isn't registered to serve food and will be getting a visit pronto.

As for why I'm bothered about it, when I eat out I expect that the premises are regularly inspected and that staff have at least some basic training in hygiene.

I want to come away with a full tummy, not a poisoned one.

You would be surprised about places you may eat out where they also dont have staff with any sort of hygiene certificate - but not having doesnt mean that they are going to poison you - thats a bit silly to make such a statement.

    So don't eat there. Simple.

    Another ridiculous reply.

Do you check on a list of places registered to serve food before you eat there? Do you check the local council hygiene scores before getting a take away?

There are minimum standards and sets of rules in place for the protection of the public.

But those rules do not state that you have to have passed any sort qualification before cooking and serving food - which was the OPs main gripe.
